Shaping the future of autonomy in the Australian grains sector

Are you interested in understanding the drivers of on-farm autonomy and how to make these technologies fit for Australian growers?

This online webinar forms part of the Grain Automate, a Grains Research and Development Corporation (GRDC) initiative designed to accelerate the adoption of machine automation, autonomy and digital technologies by Australian grain growers.

In this webinar, you’ll have the opportunity to learn more about how CSIRO is working with Australian grain growers and rural communities to understand the value proposition of on-farm autonomy and how this adoption process can be optimised. We’ll cover topics such as the product-market fit of different autonomous technologies, the social and economic benefits of these technologies and grower and community drivers of autonomy.

Grower and industry representatives will also join the discussion to share their thoughts on on-farm autonomy – what excites them, what concerns them and what is needed in the future.

You will have the chance to ask the speakers questions and hear about other opportunities to get involved in this initiative.

Join us in shaping the future potential for autonomy in the Australian grains sector. Registration closes on 11 October 2024.

GGA Experimental Design Workshop

About the Workshop:

The Experimental Design Workshop is tailored to enhance your research skills through hands-on exercises and expert guidance. This is a rare opportunity to refine your research questions, structure treatments effectively, and implement best practices for trial protocols and data management.

Workshop Agenda:

10:00 AM – 12:30 PM: Refining Your Research Questions
Delve into the “what,” “why,” and “how” of research with small-plot and OFE trial hands-on example exercises.

12:30 PM – 1:30 PM: Lunch (included)

1:30 PM – 2:15 PM: Structuring Your Treatments
Learn how to align your treatment structure and levels with your research questions.

2:15 PM – 3:00 PM: Trial Protocols and Data Best Practices
Ensure your trial protocols are well-defined to maximise benefits and minimise risks, including best practices for data collection, entry, storage, and backup.

Who Should Attend:
This workshop is open exclusively to members of the GGA network who are looking to enhance their research capabilities. With limited capacity, priority will be given to members.

DEADLINE: RISE Accelerator (Climate Smart Agriculture Round)

The RISE Accelerator delivers a comprehensive learning program made up of both online self-paced and in-person sessions. Over the course of nine months, you will benefit from the expertise and support of our delivery teams spanning India and Australia, including facilitators and subject matter experts for one-to-one guidance and B2B facilitation.

Challenge Statements for this round:

Catalysing climate smart agriculture
The scale of farm operations in India and Australia differs greatly, yet both nations face similar climate variability and agricultural resilience challenges. We’re seeking deployable, novel solutions for agricultural production, to support national economies, farmer livelihoods, and food security. Solutions should prioritise farmer needs and on-farm practices.

Does your technology or solution address one or more of these challenge statements?
1. Can you optimise natural resource inputs?
Innovative technologies and solutions that optimise access to and use of water, drive optimal soil nutrition and health, and/or protect or restore critical natural resources.
2. Can you boost productivity and profitability?
Innovative technologies and solutions that promote agricultural yield, resilience, and productivity through efficient use of fertilisers, pesticides, seeds or feed.
3. Can you influence energy use and emissions?
Innovative technologies and solutions that optimise on-farm energy and or lower emissions.
4. Can you go beyond incremental innovation to create sustainable farming systems in the longterm?
Breakthrough innovations that move beyond legacy technologies and practices to cater to changing climate, population, and economic circumstances.
