Translating Molecular Science to Practical Application: Water Sustainability in Mineral Resources

In this seminar, we will explore several examples in which molecular level insights from spectroscopic and/or computational studies have been used to guide modelling of metal ion sorption in water treatment processes, predict ion-pairing in membrane systems, and describe metal(oid) processes in contaminated sediments in mining impacted lakes. Through these examples, we will demonstrate how increased understanding at the molecular level can guide contaminant remediation and treatment options.

Securing water supplies for the future

The presentation will highlight that historically there has been a major focus on technology and treatment trains when advanced forms of water reuse have been planned, with community engagement generally playing a secondary role.

Nowadays, the focus has shifted not only to treatment trains that are more sustainable to operate in terms of energy and chemical usage but also to the adoption of evidence-based and interactive means of community engagement/outreach to maximise trust and understanding between all parties.

The current global uptake of purified recycled water (PRW) to augment drinking water supplies in many countries is a testament to this approach’s success. The presentation will highlight key aspects of this journey.

Subsea Controls Down Under Conference

The Perth branch of the Society for Underwater Technology host their 7th Subsea Controls technical conference and Exhibition

This international conference in the field of “Subsea Controls & Data Acquisition” is aimed at the diverse disciplines engaged in subsea controls technology. The goal is to share experiences by networking, discussing global and regional challenges, showcasing ways of bringing new ideas and technology to the market, sharing learnings and providing an understanding from an operator’s viewpoint on how the industry can benefit from operational and project experiences.

The Conference will be held at the Parmelia Hilton in Perth on the 29th & 30th October 2024, with a networking/welcome Ice Breaker Function to be held on the 28th October 2024 at Frasers Restaurant.

Hot Decarbonisation Opportunities: Renewable Heat and Energy Efficiency at Industrial Facilities

Industrial activity accounts for approximately 44% of Australia’s total emissions and 45% of energy use. With the burning of fossil fuels involved in more than half of these activities to produce process heat, there is a real need to explore new technology pathways to decarbonise.

On October 29, 2024, ARENA will host an industry-focused webinar to highlight the latest insights drawn from feasibility studies on these technology pathways and solutions, hearing from key players in the manufacturing, meat processing and pet food processing industries.

Program

  • Tackling industrial heat: An overview of technology options – A2EP
  • Case study: Integrating renewable energy and optimizing at a red meat processing facility – G. & K. O’Connor
  • Case study: Recovering heat energy for re-use in manufacturing – Real Pet Foods
  • Case study: Recovering biogas for heat and power from wastewater and organic waste  – Bindaree Food Group
