FFS Research Showcase 2023

Discover the latest breakthroughs in research and learn about the innovative tools and collaborative processes that are helping to propel Australia’s agrifood sector into the future.

Join Future Food Systems (FFS) for our third Research Showcase. Hear from FFS Program Leads, Project Leaders and PhD students on their groundbreaking findings with an emphasis on showcasing collaborations to advance smart, sustainable food-system solutions.

The Research Showcase will cover milestones and expected/final outcomes from a selection of FFS projects under each of the key research program areas, including a focus on:

  • Developing and supporting collaboration between government and the agrifood industry to advance value creation
  • Developing new equipment, tools, technologies and systems in protected cropping
  • Developing and increasing Australia’s value-adding capability

The final agenda and speakers will be available in June 2023.

Industry Forum: Paving the way for the next generation of WA agriculture

The University of Western Australia’s Institute of Agriculture invites all to attend its 17th-annual Industry Forum on 19 July.

The UWA Institute of Agriculture warmly invites all interested members of the public to explore the topic ‘Paving the way for the next generation of WA agriculture’ at its 17th-annual Industry Forum on Wednesday, 19 July at The University Club of WA Ground Floor Auditorium. This event will feature a lively discussion between agriculture industry leaders and analysts, innovative researchers and working farmers. Following formal presentations, all attendees are invited to join us for a fully-catered networking sundowner.

Investment Opportunities in Agrifood Value Add

FFS / FIPWA Masterclass

Join Future Food Systems (FFS) and program partners as we bring you the first edition of our Masterclass series at the state-of-the-art Food Innovation Precinct Western Australia (FIPWA), located in Stake Hill.

Designed to educate, inform and ignite collaborative and innovative thinking amongst agrifood industry stakeholders, the Masterclass series will focus on a number of trends, game-changing research, latest technologies and tackle a number of topical matters affecting Australia’s agrifood sector. Delivered by field specialists in research and industry, this educational series will arm participants with the knowledge, tools and connections to help propel their business forward and become adaptable in a constantly changing environment.

Our first Masterclass will focus on Clusters and the importance of collaboration to help solve challenges and how combining efforts can spark innovation, leading to the development of new products, along with playing a key role in creating healthy competition and progressing Australia’s agrifood sector.

Consumer biometrics in food & beverage marketing at FIPWA

Join Dr Chris Vas at the very first Technology Tuesday event free onsite at FIPWA with an interactive demonstration of consumer biometrics!

Dr Billy Sung and Stephen Gilmour will provide an overview of the market research capabilities of Metrix Consulting, specifically its innovative consumer biometric research capability.

The workshop will outline the different applications of consumer biometrics and neuroscience in food and food marketing research and will include a LIVE interactive demonstration covering the use of facial expression, eye tracking and brainwave in testing concepts, labelling and sensory attributes, packaging and much more!

Dr Billy Sung is the Head of Neuromarketing at Metrix Consulting and a Professor of Consumer Psychology and Neuroscience at the School of Management and Marketing, Curtin University. He specialises in consumer research, neuromarketing and consumer biometrics, consulting for many local, international, and multinational industry partners.

Stephen Gilmour is Senior Business Director at Metrix Consulting, with a 33-year career in Market Research – spanning CEO and directorial roles both agency and client-side across Australia and the UK. Stephen worked with numerous FMCG brands in Sydney during his six-year tenure between 2011 and 2017 – clients included Nivea, Unicharm and Nudie.

DEADLINE: Agristart Harvest Program

The opportunity is available to startups, SMEs, farmers or researchers working on innovative initiatives relevant to the agricultural sector. Applications are welcome from businesses in an early-stage startup phase, to small to medium enterprises.

The program, valued at over $10,000, is free to successful applicants. Participants will benefit from a two-day business boot camp. They will have access to masterclasses and webinars led by expert facilitators. The program also offers two field trips along with showcases and pitch events.

All participants in the program are given the opportunity for selection in a Singapore exchange program.

HARVEST is designed to help participants accelerate the commercialisation of their innovation. They benefit from connecting with like-minded entrepreneurs and growing their industry networks.

Over the six years that HARVEST has run, it has supported over 70 businesses.

Innovation Challenge: Waste Water for Breweries & Wineries

Have you got ideas for addressing waste water challenges?

Keen to connect with south west breweries and wineries?

Join us on the 4th November for an exciting innovation challenge in the beautiful Margaret River region, collaborating with relevant stakeholders to help solve waste water challenges that are impacting on the sustainability of south west wineries and breweries.

What’s involved?

This innovation challenge will bring together breweries, wineries, researchers, government, startups and relevant service providers to develop ideas for potential solutions that can then be taken through to commercialisation.

The event will include guest speakers from wineries, breweries, service providers and regulators to provide details on the problem and gaps in the market. Participants will work in teams to develop new ideas using a facilitated design thinking process.  Subject matter experts will be on hand to guide teams and provide feedback on new ideas. Follow up mentoring will be provided to take selected ideas through to potential commercialisation.

A networking sundowner will follow at CBCo Brewery (fmr Colonial Brewery) with investors and key stakeholders.
