2026 HyLogger Hackathon Starts

12 October @ 8:00 am - 5:00 pm AWST

Explore WA geoscience data and develop innovative approaches to real-world challenges!

GSWA are hosting a HyLogger Hackathon from Monday 12 to Friday 16 October 2026. This event is open to geoscience and data science students and young professionals, who may register either individually or as a team.

Individual registrants will be allocated to teams on Monday 12 October, with teams balanced by skills and interests. Teams will then work on their projects using supplied datasets before reconvening on Friday 16 October to present their submissions.

Finalists will be invited to attend the GSWA Open Day on Friday, 20 November 2026, where the winning project will be announced. A total prize pool (to be announced) will be available across all challenges.

GSWA Hackathons are designed for people with diverse skills and experience, including:

  • Young professionals in geoscience, data science, or software development
  • Researchers and university students
  • Multidisciplinary teams interested in applying technology to geoscience.

HyLogger 2026 Challenge

Participants are invited to use HyLogger data to develop new interpretations, tools, workflows and visualisations that demonstrate the value of spectral data for geoscience and ore body knowledge.  HyLogger technology rapidly collects high-resolution imagery and spectral information from drillcore and other geological samples using non-destructive visible and infrared spectroscopy. The resulting data can help identify minerals, reveal geological patterns and support exploration targeting.  Find out more about the HyLogger.
