It will be delivered by the International Maize and Wheat Improvement Center (CIMMYT) Director General Dr Bram Govaerts and focused on ‘Food (and) Security: From legacy to the future of humanity‘ at UWA Bayliss Lecture Theatre G33. \nBram Govaerts is the Director General (CEO) of CIMMYT\, the world’s leading agricultural research and development organisation dedicated to advancing global food and nutrition security. He brings together ecosystems of partners across governments\, business\, research\, and farmers to drive transformation where it matters most—in the fields and communities of smallholder farmers in the Global South. A leading voice on global food security\, he positions agriculture as strategic infrastructure central to geopolitical and economic stability\, reimagining food systems to withstand global shocks\, from pandemics and climate stress to conflict.

DESCRIPTION:Join for the first Seminar & networking event for 2026. \nGuest speaker\, Dr Selene Fernandez Valverde joins from Sydney. \nDr Fernandez is a genomic scientist and bioinformatician at the UNSW RNA Institute and School of Biotechnology and Biomecular Sciences where she leads the RegRNALab. Her research focuses on non-coding RNAs and their role in the evolution of gene regulatory landscapes within and across eukaryotes\, with a strong focus on plants. \nThe catering has kindly been sponsored by Merck Life Sciences and the travel funding supported by ARC CoE Plants for Space\, along with annual funding from the RNA Society and Lexogen.
