SDG 2: Zero Hunger

SDG 8: Decent Work and Economic Growth

SDG 12: Responsible Consumption and Production

SDG13: Climate Action

You’ll learn and practice design thinking to innovate solutions to wicked problems in one of these SDGs, work in a team to develop your solution into a presentation, and pitch your idea to a panel of subject matter experts.

The SDG Challenge is a 100% online event. Students enrolled at any WA University (Onshore and International campuses) can join and gain the experience of collaborating with entrepreneurs, industry innovators and academic leaders to develop innovative solutions on a local or global scale. Present your team’s pitch in a 5 minute video.

To get the most from your SDG Challenge experience, you should be available to join online for the following key events, as well as have some availability between these dates to work on your team’s project, at times/ dates that you all agree upon:

Centre Co-Directors: Associate Professor Nik Callow, Associate Professor Sally Thompson, and Associate Professor Matt Hipsey

The seminar series aims to explore the topic of “Seeking new water knowledge in a changing climate.” In today’s world, the challenges posed by climate change require us to deepen our understanding of water resources and their management. Through engaging discussions, we will delve into the latest research and advancements in water science, catchment management, and spatial data.

CWSS is built around five core themes:

  • Resilient Landscapes
  • Water and a Changing Climate
  • Catchment to Coasts
  • Data Driven Discovery and Spatial Analytics
  • Research-Teaching Nexus

The CWSS’s expertise perfectly aligns with UWA’s strategic priorities, focusing on environment, food security, economic development, and human health. By joining this event, you will have the opportunity to connect with industry leaders, innovative researchers, and research students who are at the forefront of addressing these critical issues.

The launch event will feature short presentations from lead researchers, providing insights into their ground breaking work. In addition, discussions will allow for in-depth conversations and the exchange of ideas. To ensure an enjoyable experience, we will provide a fully-catered morning tea, allowing participants to network and forge connections with like-minded individuals.

This event is an excellent opportunity to contribute to the advancement of water knowledge and collaborate with a vibrant community of professionals and researchers. We invite you to be a part of this exciting journey as we pave the way for a sustainable future in the face of a changing climate.

Stay tuned for the event program, which will be announced soon. Mark your calendars and prepare to be inspired by the remarkable work happening within the Centre for Water and Spatial Science. Together, let’s make a difference and create lasting solutions for our world’s water challenges.
