Australia-Japan Innovation Alliance Forum 2025

The Forum will explore concrete pathways for Australia-Japan partnerships in innovation and technology through engaging discussions and focused sessions; put a spotlight on the Western Australian innovation ecosystem; and foster new relationships and professional networks within the Australia-Japan innovation sphere.

The Forum is delivered by the AJBCC’s Innovation Technology and Start Ups Advisory Committee, in partnership with Australia’s national scientific and industrial research institution, CSIRO, and will take place at its Kensington facility, providing the opportunity to showcase world-leading research into clean energy and information technology.

Centurion is proud to announce a major milestone in sustainable transport — the commissioning of its South charging site at Perth Airport, bringing our full fleet of 30 Mercedes-Benz eActros 300 Battery Electric Trucks into operation.

This $36 million project, delivered in partnership with ARENA, Daimler Truck, Cape Dunstans, Switch Batteries, and bp Australia, is Australia’s first fully off-grid, renewable-powered truck fleet. Supported by 4.4MW of rooftop solar, 10.3MWh of battery storage, and 15 dual-port fast and slow chargers, the project demonstrates how industry collaboration, renewable energy, and innovation can create a greener, more resilient future for freight and logistics.

DEADLINE: Drought Resilience Innovation Challenges Pilot Program

The Australian Government announced the $20 million Drought Resilience Innovation Challenges Pilot Program in the 2024–25 Budget. The program adopts a challenge-based approach that supports innovative solutions to address complex and multi-dimensional challenges imposed by drought and climate impacts.

  • Funding available: up to $2 million per project (excluding GST)

You must apply as a consortium that includes farmers or farmer-led organisations. Your project should address one of the following challenges:

  • Advancing Natural Capital and Biodiversity for Drought Preparedness and Resilience
  • Innovating Water Management for Enhanced Drought Resilience in Australian Agriculture
  • National Innovation for Enhancing Community Resilience to Drought in Australian Agricultural Regions

The $500 million Battery Breakthrough Initiative (BBI) has been announced, a Budget measure announced by the Australian Government in May 2024 and a central part of the National Battery Strategy also released in May.

BBI aims to enhance Australia’s battery manufacturing capability and commercialise battery manufacturing processes and technologies. BBI is a $500 million funding program to support and grow battery manufacturing in Australia.

ARENA will deliver the program and has designed the guidelines in consultation with the Department of Industry, Science and Resources (DISR) following consultation with industry and other stakeholders.
