DEADLINE: MRIWA Research Priority Plan – Have your say

The Minerals Research Institute of Western Australia (MRIWA) is undertaking a Review of its Research Priority Plan (RPP). The RPP is a guiding document, which provides the framework by which MRIWA invests in research projects for the benefit of Western Australia.

MRIWA and ACIL Allen have prepared a Discussion Paper, which is available for public comment. This Web Form is a supplement to the Discussion Paper where you may provide input into the opportunities and challenges facing Western Australia’s minerals industry. Information obtained from the Discussion Paper and Web Form will inform the development of a Draft Research Priority Plan, which will be presented for public comment prior to endorsement of the Minister for Mines and Petroleum – the Hon. David Michael MLA – later in 2025.

Submissions are encouraged from all interested parties: research organisations, minerals companies, downstream processing companies, Government and not for profit sector organisations, and the general public.

DEADLINE: MRIWA Research Portfolio Manager

MRIWA are seeking motivated and talented Level 8 professionals to join the MRIWA team and contribute to design and delivery of their research functions.

Reporting to the Director Research Strategy, Research Portfolio Managers play an integral role identifying and developing new opportunities for minerals research with researchers and industry and managing a portfolio of existing research projects.

DEADLINE: AEA Innovate Grant EOIs

AEA Innovate provides funding for projects at TRL 5 to 7, and up to $5 million per grant for up to 2 years.

Innovate grants support mid-stage research commercialisation through competitive grants of up to $5 million for a maximum period of 24 months.

These grants are available for researchers at Australian universities to collaborate with industry to advance projects that already have laboratory proof-of-concept.

Grant recipients are expected to be able to increase the technology and commercial readiness of their innovation to reach proof-of-scale. This includes developing and testing prototypes or pilots for new products, processes or software in an industry-relevant environment.

The eight focus areas are:

  • critical and strategic minerals processing
  • sustainable fuels
  • agriculture and food technology
  • quantum
  • artificial intelligence (AI)
  • advanced manufacturing
  • space
  • renewable energy.

The closing date for Expressions of Interest is 5:00pm AEST Friday 29 August 2025.

DEADLINE: AEA Ignite Grants

AEA Ignite provides funding for projects at Technology Readiness Level (TRL) 3 to 5, and from $50,000 to $500,000 for up to 12 months per project.

Ignite grants support early-stage research commercialisation through competitive grants of up to $500,000 for a maximum period of 12 months. These grants are available for researchers at Australian universities to complete basic research, laboratory testing and establish proof-of-concept in an industry-relevant environment.

The eight focus areas are:

  • critical and strategic minerals processing
  • sustainable fuels
  • agriculture and food technology
  • quantum
  • artificial intelligence (AI)
  • advanced manufacturing
  • space
  • renewable energy.

Applications for AEA Ignite Round 2 will close at 5:00pm AEST Wednesday 3 September 2025.
