SUMMARY:Stabilising trade during the transition: Creating regional cooperation for a secure energy transition and the successful development of new clean industries
DESCRIPTION:Join us at Perth’s Global Citizen NOW summit to explore the connection between trade and the energy transition. How do we achieve a low-carbon Future Made with Australia: how will Australia work with existing and new trading partners to maintain and build trading relationships when transitioning existing industries and establishing new clean industries? \nOur moderated panel discussion will consider questions including: \n\nWhat role have Australia’s international trading partners played in past industrial development? What can this teach us about future partnerships? How will this transition be different? Which of our assumptions may not be correct?\nIs there a case for regional cooperation to transition trade relationships from high- to low-carbon forms? What do we need to know to assess this?\n\n\nWhat can we learn from the experiences of the companies that are exploring international partnerships for clean industry development?\nHow can Australian governments develop a consistent approach to promoting Australia’s role in low-carbon economies that is inclusive of our trading partners?\nCan we work together regionally to increase demand and improve cost-bearing for low-emission industry development?\nWhat are the key messages from this conversation for Australia’s COP representatives?\n\nPanellists: \nBaethan Mullen\, CEO of The Superpower Institute\, a think tank focused on promoting Australia’s opportunities to unlock prosperity and contribute to global decarbonisation. Baethan has over 20 years of experience in public policy\, regulation and economics with a strong focus on the energy sector. \nDr Sam Bartlett\, Director of Standards at the Green Hydrogen Organisation (GH2)\, a not-for-profit organisation based in Geneva.
