SUMMARY:Virtual Global Expert Program: Jennifer Head
DESCRIPTION:This session will explore how innovators can develop a credible and practical strategy for entering the NHS market. \nWhile many companies focus heavily on regulatory approval and clinical evidence\, successful NHS adoption depends on a much broader set of commercial\, operational\, and system-level factors. \nDrawing on real-world experience supporting MedTech innovators\, we will explore: \n\nHow NHS decision-making works across clinicians\, commissioners\, procurement teams\, and integrated care systems\nThe different commercial pathways into the NHS and how to determine which is most appropriate for your technology\nWhy strong clinical evidence alone is rarely enough to drive adoption\nCommon strategic mistakes innovators make when approaching the NHS market\nHow to realistically assess whether the NHS represents a viable and scalable commercial opportunity

Its medical brain monitoring technology is capable of measuring both levels of unconsciousness and pain\, which can be used to better detect the effect of anaesthetic agents on a patient’s brain activities and aid anaesthetists in keeping patients optimally medicated. The BARM™ devices have been supplied worldwide to 12 hospitals for trials and evaluation. \nAbout Cortical Dynamics \nCortical Dynamics is developing the Brain Anaesthesia Response Monitor (“BARM™”)\, the next generation medical brain capable of measuring both levels of unconsciousness and pain. \nBARM™ has been developed with the objective of better detecting the effect of anaesthetic agents on brain activity\, aiding anaesthetists to accomplish the fundamental goal of rendering the patient optimally unconscious and immune to pain. BARM™ is based on innovative developments in how the brain’s rhythmic electrical activity\, EEG\, is interpreted and analysed. This approach produces indices directly related to the physiological state of the brain. This medical device is FDA 510 (k)\, CE\, TGA\, Korean MFDS approved. \nNotably\, Cortical Dynamics was awarded funding and commercialisation support through the BioMedTech Horizons (BMTH) accelerator program. Delivered by MTPConnect\, the Australian Government’s $45 million BMTH program was a Medical Research Future Fund (MRFF) initiative to support innovative collaborative health technologies\, drive discoveries towards proof-of-concept and commercialisation that address key health challenges as well as maximise entrepreneurship and idea potential. \nAbout our speakers \nAshley Zimpel – Chief Executive Officer \nMr Ashley Zimpel is an experienced public and private company entrepreneur and director. SUMMARY:An evening with Marc Koska OBE and Philip Leslie
DESCRIPTION:Join the WA Life Sciences Innovation Hub for an evening of conversation with Marc Koska OBE and Philip Leslie (ApiJect). \n\n\n\nJoin the WA Life Sciences Innovation Hub for an evening of conversation with Marc Koska OBE and Philip Leslie about developing innovative drug delivery devices for the global healthcare market and the ApiJect story. Refreshments and networking to follow. \nEvery year\, more than 1 million people are killed due to syringe reuse and unsafe injection practices in healthcare facilities. \nIn the 1980’s\, Marc’s innovative auto-disable syringe prevented the spread of disease and infection\, helping save more than 12 million lives. Marc is now co-founder and Head of R&D of ApiJect Systems\, a company developing an innovative new drug delivery platform with the potential to enable more liquid medicines and vaccines to safely reach more patients across the world. \nMarc is joined by ApiJect’s Senior Advisor\, Manufacturing Philip Leslie\, whose exceptional service of more than 30 years’ pharmaceutical manufacturing experience has seen him inducted into Victoria’s Manufacturing Hall of Fame in 2017. \nAgenda \n6:00pm Registration \n6:15pm Presentation \n6:30pm Fireside chat with Marc and Philip moderated by Tracey Wilkinson \n7:15pm Networking \n8:00pm Event close \nAbout ApiJect \nIn the mid-1980s\, Mr Marc Koska invented the revolutionary K-1 auto-disable syringe\, which prevented the spread of bloodborne diseases and infection by making the syringe impossible to reuse. It is believed his invention has helped to save more than 12 million lives. Watch his 2009 TED Talk here. \nIn 2005\, he founded the nonprofit SafePoint Trust to educate children in developing nations about the dangers of employing used needles. Among many other honors bestowed upon Marc\, he was made an Officer of the Order of the British Empire for his “contribution to global healthcare.” \nIn 2015\, Marc founded ApiJect Ltd and invented a breakthrough Blow-Fill-Seal (BFS) injection device. The Prefilled ApiJect Injector is designed for simplicity: just prior to injection\, a fill-finished Blow-Fill-Seal container and intramuscular needle hub are push-twisted together by a healthcare professional. \nThis new drug delivery platform has the potential to enable more liquid medicines and vaccines to safely reach more patients across the world. \nToday\, ApiJect Systems is a medical technology company working to improve how sterile liquid medicines and vaccines are fill-finished across the world. \n  \nIf you have any questions\, contact Rebekah Crags at rebekah.craggs@mtpconnect.org.au

SUMMARY:WA MTP Sector Spotlight ft. VitalTrace
DESCRIPTION:The WA Life Sciences Innovation Hub invites you to join our next WA MTP Sector Spotlight Series event\, a fireside chat with VitalTrace CEO & Co-Founder Dr Arjun Kaushik and Head of Regulatory & Quality Dr Celine Royet in conversation with Dr Tracey Wilkinson.\nThis is a great opportunity to learn about the team’s journey developing its real-time fetal biosensor to monitor mothers and babies during childbirth\, an area that hasn’t seen significant innovation in decades. VitalTrace has grown from a big idea to a product granted fast-track device designation by the US FDA\, and soon to enter first-in-human clinical trials. Their growing team of over 30 people is establishing advanced manufacturing capabilities and successfully secured dilutive and non-dilutive funding. \nWe’re pleased to be delivering this event in partnership with The Centre for Entrepreneurial Research and Innovation (CERI)\, a social enterprise supporting the next generation of WA’s entrepreneurs. Their programs have been designed to educate and empower early-stage entrepreneurs\, PhD students and visionaries within the WA community. \nJoin us Tuesday 19 September 2023\, from 5:30pm-7:15pm AWST at The Centre for Entrepreneurial Research and Innovation (CERI)\, Level 1\, 22 Stirling Highway\, Nedlands. Light refreshments provided\, registrations from 5:15pm.
