SUMMARY:DEADLINE: National Computational Merit Allocation Scheme 2027
DESCRIPTION:NCMAS provides access\, based on research and computational merit\, for researchers at Australian universities and publicly funded research agencies\, to resources at the major national HPC facilities. \nNCMAS supports HPC simulations\, data processing and AI/ML. Quantum computing is also available via Setonix-Q – a portal for Australian researchers to run hybrid quantum–classical workflows. \nThe NCMAS 2027 Call for Applications is expected to be highly competitive. Last year: \n\nAbout 884 million SU (service units) in total were awarded to applicants at the two\nHPC facilities\, NCI and the Pawsey Supercomputing Centre.\nAllocated resources were only ~40% of the total requested resources\, with the\nscheme more than 2.5x oversubscribed.\n110 of 235 applications (~47%) received allocations on one or more of the HPC\nfacilities.\n\nThe National Computational Merit Allocation Scheme is Australia’s premiere grant scheme for access to high-performance computing (HPC) resources. The two Tier-1 HPC facilities in Australia\, the National Computational Infrastructure (NCI) and the Pawsey Supercomputing Research Centre\, together offer hundreds of millions of hours of computing time to meritorious researchers.

SUMMARY:DEADLINE: AusSRC Science Enabling Projects EOIs
DESCRIPTION:AusSRC now invites the Australian SKA science community to submit Expressions of Interest for projects that could benefit from AusSRC science\, software\, infrastructure\, or operational support.\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nThe Australian SKA Regional Centre (AusSRC) is an un-incorporated joint venture between CSIRO – Australia’s national science agency\, Curtin University\, the Pawsey Supercomputing Research Centre and the University of Western Australia (UWA). \nFunded by the Australian Government\, AusSRC is Australia’s contribution to the international SKA Regional Centre Network (SRCNet). The SRCNet will support the global flow of data and processing needed for the SKA Observatory (SKAO) telescopes – the two most advanced radio telescopes in the world\, currently under construction in Australia and South Africa. \nThe AusSRC Science Enabling Projects\nAs part of a commitment to enabling the scientific output of the Australian SKA science community\, AusSRC supports a number of projects to build capabilities that will enable SKA science\, known as the AusSRC Science Enabling Projects (ASEPs). The ASEPs will help drive the expansion of scientific workflows and creation of new data-handling pipelines for processing and analysing large astronomical datasets. \n\n\n\n\n\n\nProjects may use data from CSIRO’s ASKAP radio telescope\, the Curtin University-led Murchison Widefield Array (MWA)\, the South African Radio Astronomy Observatory’s (SARAO’s) MeerKAT telescope\, other SKA precursors\, SKA-related multi-wavelength datasets\, or contribute to community resources and broader SRCNet capabilities. \n\n\n\n\n\n\nFollowing the successful delivery of 8 projects in the inaugural round\, the second round of ASEPs will support projects that: \n\nAdvance Australian SKA precursor science\nContribute to SKA-readiness and SRCNet capabilities\nDevelop sustainable workflows\, software\, or services\nExpand Australia’s capability in radio astronomy\nDeliver impact beyond a single project or user\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nAs the community moves closer to SKA Science Verification and SKA-era science\, this round will continue to support projects connected to SKA science\, SKA precursor data\, and broader SRCNet priorities. DESCRIPTION:Hosted by The Western Australian Biodiversity Science Institute\, Western Australian Marine Science Institution and Pawsey Supercomputing Centre. \nJoin us as we celebrate Data Science & AI Week 2023\, bringing together end users\, data scientists\, technologists and more\, to raise awareness of the value of shared biodiversity data and analytics. \nEach year\, a substantial amount of information on Western Australia’s biodiversity is collected by industry and government. \nUnlocking latent value from data collection and curation means not just sharing data but developing crucial analytics to get the greatest value possible for proponents\, regulators\, traditional owners and the wider community. \nThe Western Australian Biodiversity Science Institute (WABSI) and the Western Australian Marine Science Institution (WAMSI) have formed a strong collaboration of senior stakeholders from industry\, government\, regulators and the science community. \nThe collaboration has built a data sharing culture\, to improve an understanding of cumulative environmental impacts and better interpret and manage biodiversity information collected in Western Australia. \nThis event presents key achievements from the collaborative\, digital journey and provides an overview of the proposed Shared Environmental Analytics Facility’s (SEAF) pilot project in Cockburn Sound and the next steps in developing analytical capabilities and products to unlock latent value for all stakeholders.
