DESCRIPTION:The objective of this grant opportunity is to provide grants of financial assistance to support Australian medical research and medical innovation projects that use novel methods to harness multiple existing data infrastructure types in developing and implementing new approaches for addressing an unmet medical need. \nResearch proposals should incorporate: \n\nnew linkage and/or use of data from multiple (at least two) existing research data infrastructure sources of different types (e.g. administrative and biobank data\, registry and biobank data\, wearables and use artificial intelligence); and/or\nnovel methodologies and approaches that leverage and enhance existing linked research data infrastructure of at least two different types (e.g. administrative and biobank data\, registry and biobank data\, wearables and use artificial intelligence); and\na clear outline of how the proposed project will produce knowledge and outcomes that address an area of unmet medical need.

DESCRIPTION:The next Future Health Research and Innovation (FHRI) Fund Open Day will be held on Wednesday 5 November 2025 at Dexus Place (Perth CBD)\, and ONLINE. \nThis event marks an important milestone with the official launch of the FHRI Fund Spotlight program\, a new initiative designed to highlight priority health challenges and connect researchers\, innovators\, community and government to drive impact. \nThe inaugural Spotlight theme is Rheumatic Heart Disease (RHD) – a serious but preventable condition that disproportionately affects Aboriginal people and communities across WA. By placing RHD in the spotlight\, the FHRI Fund seeks to strengthen collaboration\, partnerships\, research and innovation to reduce its devastating health impacts. \nThe Open Day is also an opportunity for the WA health and medical research and innovation community to hear about the suite of FHRI Fund opportunities that are aligned to the new FHRI Fund Strategy 2025-30. Several FHRI Fund Programs and Initiatives (P&Is) will be launched and the sector will also be provided the forward view of P&I openings across FY25/26 and FY26/27. \nThe event will be hosted by the Department of Health’s Office of Medical Research and Innovation (OMRI) and will feature presentations from: \n\nThe Hon. From 2000 until 2006\, she was also Director/CEO of the Cooperative Research Centre for Vaccine Technology. She then returned to Melbourne as Director of the WHO Collaborating Centre for Reference and Research on Influenza from 2007 until she took up her role with NHMRC in April 2015. She was appointed Officer in the Order of Australia in June 2007 for service to science. \n\n\nProfessor Kelso is a member of several government and international committees\, including the Australian Medical Research Advisory Board (advising the Minister for Health and Aged Care on the strategy and priorities for the Medical Research Future Fund)\, the Board of the Global Alliance for Chronic Diseases and the Board of Trustees of the International Human Frontier Science Program Organization. \nMr Blair Exell \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nDeputy Secretary for Health Strategy\, First Nations Health and Sport in the Department of Health and Aged Care  \n\n\nMr Exell has been a senior leader in foreign affairs\, indigenous and development agendas in Australia and across the Asia Pacific region for almost 30 years. \nPrior to his role in the department\, Mr Exell was the Deputy CEO of the National Indigenous Australians Agency responsible for operations and delivery. This followed 25 years in the foreign affairs and international development arena working across the Asia-Pacific region. He began his career in non-government organisations in Cambodia and Vietnam and later moved across to the Australian Public Service where Mr Exell has now held senior roles for AusAID\, DFAT\, PMC\, NIAA and DOHAC. \nMr Exell was Australia’s most senior aid representative while posted to Cambodia\, Solomon Islands and Indonesia. He was the inaugural Australian Ambassador for Regional Health Security (2017-2018) and served as Australia’s Board member to the Global Alliance for Vaccines and Immunisation (2017-2018).

DESCRIPTION:Celebrate some of WA’s outstanding medtech organisations at the WA BMTH showcase \nCelebrate some of WA’s outstanding medtech organisations at the WA BMTH showcase\, featuring an opening address by the Hon. Stephen Dawson MLC\, WA’s Minister for Innovation\, ICT and Medical Research. \nDelivered by MTPConnect\, the Australian Government’s $45 million BioMedTech Horizons program (BMTH)\, is a Medical Research Future Fund (MRFF) initiative to support innovative collaborative health technologies\, drive discoveries towards proof-of-concept and commercialisation that address key health challenges as well as maximise entrepreneurship and idea potential. \nAcross four funding rounds\, the BMTH program has funded 49 projects. Investments are focused on supporting proof-of-concept to commercial development of biomedical and medical technologies. \nThe WA BMTH Showcase is an opportunity to hear from WA-based companies awarded BMTH funding to develop and commercialise their medtech innovations – about their commercialisation journey and future plans. \n
