DESCRIPTION:The Research Fellows 2026 program is Part A of the FHRI Fund Fellowships program. It aims to attract and develop outstanding health and medical researchers across all career stages\, making the WA research workforce more competitive at national and international levels. \nFellowships up to $1.8 million will be awarded to top-ranked applications to support salary and research costs for up to 4 years. \nIn 2026\, these prestigious fellowships will be offered across 4 streams: \n\nAboriginal Health Researcher Fellows – for early\, mid\, and senior-career researchers who identify as Aboriginal\, to co-design and lead research with Aboriginal communities\nClinician Researcher Fellows – for medical practitioners\, nurses\, midwives\, dentists and allied health professionals and other registered clinicians to conduct impactful research that improves health outcomes.\nEmerging Researcher Fellows – for early and mid-career researchers to lead impactful and collaborative research.\nFHRI Fund-Heart Foundation Fellows – for early and mid-career cardiovascular researchers. Proudly delivered in partnership with the National Heart Foundation of Australia.\n\nFunding will be awarded through a competitive and merit-based process including assessment by an independent review panel. \nProgram Status: Opening 18 June 2026 \nApplications Close: 1:00pm (AWST) Thursday 13 August 2026

SUMMARY:DEADLINE: Major Research and Innovation Application Support Program
DESCRIPTION:The Major Research and Innovation Application Support (MRIAS) Program provides in-principle cash commitments for Western Australian grant applications being submitted to nationally or internationally competitive external grant funding programs (External Programs)\, to boost their chance of success. \nMRIAS aims to promote high-quality research and innovation\, enable opportunities for the translation of findings into new knowledge and improved human health and wellbeing\, and enhance Western Australia’s standing as a leader in health and medical research and innovation. \nIn-principle cash commitments of up to $1 million will be awarded through a competitive and merit-based process and successful MRIAS applicants will be provided with a letter of support to submit with their External Program application. \nMRIAS applicants must be at the full application stage of the relevant External Program (i.e. not the Expression of Interest stage) and intending to apply to the External Program within twelve months from the closing date for the MRIAS round being applied to.

SUMMARY:FHRI Fund Open Day – A Connected Innovation Ecosystem
DESCRIPTION:The next Future Health Research and Innovation (FHRI) Fund Open Day will be held on 18 July 2024 with a theme of ‘a connected innovation ecosystem’. \nHosted by the WA Department of Health’s Office of Medical Research and Innovation (OMRI) in collaboration with the WA Life Sciences Innovation Hub (WALSIH)\, attendees will have the opportunity to hear about local developments related to health and medical innovation\, learn about new FHRI Fund programs open for applications\, and hear successful FHRI Fund recipients showcase their innovation projects through a captivating Early-stage Biomedical and Health Showcase. \nSpeakers will include prominent identities in the WA health and medical innovation space\, including new FHRI Fund Advisory Council Member\, Professor Fiona Wood AO\, and recently awarded FHRI Fund grant recipients will also be announced. \nAn ‘innovation marketplace’ will be held after the formalities\, allowing attendees to meet medical technology start-up representatives and gain insight into health and medical innovations in development. \nAttendance may be in-person or online.  For those unable to attend in person\, a recording will be available on the FHRI Fund website.
