WA UNI Students Sustainability Challenge: Students Doing Good

31 July 2023 @ 6:00 pm - 8:00 pm AWST

Free

Collaborate with industry and academic leaders. Learn design thinking tools. Solve wicked problems. Gain new, in-demand skills!

The Students Doing Good Sustainability Challenge brings you together with other WA University students, industry and academic mentors to consider solutions to one of four Sustainable Development Goals:

SDG 2: Zero Hunger

SDG 8: Decent Work and Economic Growth

SDG 12: Responsible Consumption and Production

SDG13: Climate Action

You’ll learn and practice design thinking to innovate solutions to wicked problems in one of these SDGs, work in a team to develop your solution into a presentation, and pitch your idea to a panel of subject matter experts.

The SDG Challenge is a 100% online event. Students enrolled at any WA University (Onshore and International campuses) can join and gain the experience of collaborating with entrepreneurs, industry innovators and academic leaders to develop innovative solutions on a local or global scale. Present your team’s pitch in a 5 minute video.

To get the most from your SDG Challenge experience, you should be available to join online for the following key events, as well as have some availability between these dates to work on your team’s project, at times/ dates that you all agree upon:

31 July 2023, 4-6pm: Get inspired! Meet the Mentors. Join a SDG Challenge team and decide with your mentor how and when they can support your team.

7 August 2023, 4-7pm: Design Thinking workshop led by design thinking expert, Dr Chris Kueh (Edith Cowan University) plus mentor-supported collaboration time.

21 August 2023: Deadline for your team to submit its 5 minute video pitch.

28 August 2023: Join online for a review of all the video pitches and the annoucement of the 2023 Students Doing Good Challenge winning team!

In addition to an overall winner, recognition of capability will be awarded to teams who demonstrate skill in the four judging criteria:
