Michael is a senior corporate finance lawyer\, with over 25 years’ experience of advising on equity capital markets and public and private M&A transactions\, predominantly in the natural resources and technology sectors. He acts on transactions globally\, and having previously worked in Sydney he has a particular interest in helping Australian companies to access the UK – whether it be an ASX-listed mining company looking to dual list here\, or a smaller fintech company looking to expand into the UK and Europe. Bird & Bird has 33 offices worldwide\, including the major cities of Europe\, as well as Sydney. \n \nThom Abbott is Head of SE Asia and Australasia\, Primary Markets for the London Stock Exchange. Thom is responsible for supporting companies and their investors understand the process of going public and life as a listed company on London’s markets. Thom joined the exchange in 2017 to support the international development of an initiative for private companies looking to ready themselves for IPO. Prior to LSE\, Thom worked at Chinese investment bank CITIC in Beijing and led the expansion of Foresight Science and Technology in Asia\, performing valuation work and managing technology licensing deals globally. Thom studied International Relations and Finance at the University of Leeds\, and was a Taiwan Ministry of Education Scholarship recipient\, studying at National Sun Yat Sen University. \n \nFinty Clowry Steele is an Investment Manager at the British Consulate-General in Perth. She supports innovative Australian companies to access the UK’s capital markets\, scale internationally\, and connect with venture capital\, strategic partners\, and government-backed support. Through DBT’s global network\, she helps businesses navigate the UK’s financial ecosystem\, identify growth opportunities\, and accelerate market entry. Recognising the gap in support for tech entrepreneurs\, students\, researchers\, and practitioners who are in the early stages of their journey\, ASTN has developed this program to address three critical areas that often receive limited attention during the initial phases of development: \n\nCustomer Discovery\nMarket and Competitor Analysis\nBusiness Model Development\n\nKey Dates\n5 August 2025: Applications open\n19 September 2025: Applications close 11pm\n22 September 2025: Cohort selection process\nLate September to early December 2025: Program Delivery with Welcome Session on 29 September 11am-1pm (AEST). All other sessions will be Mondays and Wednesdays 4pm-6pm (AEDT). \nWho Can Apply\nThis pre-accelerator program is open to startup founders\, entrepreneurs with an athlete\, practioners or research background or intrapreneurs of sports organisations or businesses who have a technology-based idea\, consider establishing a business or develop a minimal viable product (MVP). \n10 Weeks\, 6 Modules and 20 Sessions:\n\nCommercialisation\nTranslating R&D\nValidation of Ideas\nOrganisational Ambitions\nAdministrative Necessities\nLearn from the Best\n\nProgram Delivery\nThe program will be delivered online and combined group sessions with one-on-one meetings with a mentor. Each participant will have access to the Microsoft TEAMS platform for mentor interaction\, content and program delivery as well as for an additional period after program completion. \nProgram Structure\nThe program will be a 10-week cohort-based educational program consisting of six (6) modules. Two sessions will be conducted each week for a total of 20 sessions plus an optional office hour each week. A core focus of the program will be to support startup entrepreneurs to validate their sportstech business idea against competitors\, vendors and VCs whilst intrapreneurs gain insights on how to embed such innovation practices into their organisation. \nAlso see: ASTN Growth Stage Accelerator Cohort #16 Program
