SUMMARY:CSIRO: Human Rights and AI – a new impact assessment tool
DESCRIPTION:The National AI Centre is delighted to host the Australian Human Rights Commissioner\, Lorraine Finlay\, and Head of Privacy & Data Ethics for National Australia Bank\, Jade Haar\, in a discussion about a new tool to help organisations consider and measure the risk to human rights posed by AI systems. \nAI has the capabilities to improve efficiency and increase customer satisfaction when engaging with banking services. However\, given the important role banks play in storing the wealth of Australians\, it is important that when integrating AI into decision-making it is done ethically and with human rights at the forefront. \nThe Australian Human Rights Commission have partnered with NAB to develop and produce this human rights impact assessment tool. \nThis tool can be used to assess whether an AI system is lawful\, transparent\, explainable\, used responsibly\, and subject to appropriate human oversight\, review\, and intervention. \nDuring this free webinar you will hear how the tool was developed\, how it can be used and what Australian businesses can learn from its development.

SUMMARY:ACS WA CONVERSATION CIRCLES: SUPPORTING WOMEN IN TECH
DESCRIPTION:This is a women’s in person event to be held in Perth\, Western Australia. \nAs reported in 2023’s Australia’s Digital Pulse\, approximately 30% of Australia’s technology professionals are women\, with progress toward improving representation and equal participation of women in the workforce being glacially slow. \nOf the women currently employed in technology roles\, many have experienced and continue to face barriers and career challenges. From those navigating their way in the early stages of their career\, through to established professionals\, they all seem to face the same barriers. Job progression\, network building\, imposter syndrome\, and a lack of opportunities for them to innovate and secure well-paying roles being just a few of the key issues faced by women across the Australian technology landscape. \nIn an effort to help bridge the divide and support women in tech\, ACS is eager to delve deeper into the wants and needs of women working in the sector. Through candid and open discussions\, we’d like to gather broader and honest insights from women on their various pain points and understand how ACS might help solve them. \nFacilitated by ACS’ Vice President of Communities\, Jo Stewart-Rattray\, we warmly welcome and encourage all women working in technology to attend and participate in our series of conversation circles\, so we can continue to work toward building an equitable and diverse Australian technology sector. \n  \nAGENDA: \n5.30pm – Registrations open \n6:00pm – Discussion commences \n7:00pm – Networking and light refreshments \n\n\n\n\nCONTACT DETAILS\n\nVicki Leddin\nMember Services & Events Manager (WA)\nvicki.leddin@acs.org.au
