SUMMARY:BrewHub and Connect - September
DESCRIPTION:This month\, the AARP is excited to welcome Jacob Yeo\, Project Manager\, Translation and Impact team at the Curtin Institute of Radio Astronomy (CIRA) and the International Centre for Radio Astronomy Research (ICRAR) to Brew Hub and Connect! \nJacob Yeo is a Project Manager at CIRA\, which constitutes the Curtin University node of ICRAR. He supports the planning\, coordination and delivery of strategic industry-led research and infrastructure initiatives. Jacob works closely with researchers\, industry partners and other stakeholders to ensure effective project governance and execution in translating project objectives into successful outcomes. \nJacob will be joined by representatives from CIRA’s Engineering team to showcase how we are translating astronomy-based capabilities into other domains. \nThe event will include networking in the Breakout Space\, a short presentation in the Auditorium on CIRA’s work and activities at the AARP\, followed by a walk to the Heavy Zone test bed for a demonstration/showcase of their equipment. \nAttendees will then return to AARP HQ for further networking and morning tea\, with an optional HQ facility tour at the conclusion. CORE Start members will also be attending the event.

SUMMARY:From Lab to Launch: Ablano's Nanomaterials in the New Space Economy
DESCRIPTION:Discover how WA-developed nanomaterials are moving from the laboratory into real-world space missions\, with Ablano and leading researchers.\nJoin WA Space Forum and Ablano for an inside look at the development and first spaceflight demonstration of Ablano’s boron nitride nanomaterial. \nRecently launched aboard a suborbital rocket from northern Sweden\, experimental panels coated with different concentrations of the material travelled to an altitude of 270 kilometres\, spending approximately six and a half minutes above the Kármán line before being recovered near Kiruna. \nThe panels have now returned to Australia for analysis at The University of Western Australia\, providing researchers with real-world data on how the material performs through the extreme conditions of launch and atmospheric descent. \nHear directly from the team behind the technology about the science of boron nitride nanomaterials\, how the flight experiment was developed\, what they hope to learn from the returned samples\, and the potential applications for more durable\, lightweight spacecraft and reusable launch systems. \nThe discussion will also explore the broader opportunity for Australian-developed advanced materials to become part of the global space supply chain.

SUMMARY:DEADLINE: AusSRC Science Enabling Projects EOIs
DESCRIPTION:AusSRC now invites the Australian SKA science community to submit Expressions of Interest for projects that could benefit from AusSRC science\, software\, infrastructure\, or operational support.\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nThe Australian SKA Regional Centre (AusSRC) is an un-incorporated joint venture between CSIRO – Australia’s national science agency\, Curtin University\, the Pawsey Supercomputing Research Centre and the University of Western Australia (UWA). \nFunded by the Australian Government\, AusSRC is Australia’s contribution to the international SKA Regional Centre Network (SRCNet). The SRCNet will support the global flow of data and processing needed for the SKA Observatory (SKAO) telescopes – the two most advanced radio telescopes in the world\, currently under construction in Australia and South Africa. \nThe AusSRC Science Enabling Projects\nAs part of a commitment to enabling the scientific output of the Australian SKA science community\, AusSRC supports a number of projects to build capabilities that will enable SKA science\, known as the AusSRC Science Enabling Projects (ASEPs). The ASEPs will help drive the expansion of scientific workflows and creation of new data-handling pipelines for processing and analysing large astronomical datasets. \n\n\n\n\n\n\nProjects may use data from CSIRO’s ASKAP radio telescope\, the Curtin University-led Murchison Widefield Array (MWA)\, the South African Radio Astronomy Observatory’s (SARAO’s) MeerKAT telescope\, other SKA precursors\, SKA-related multi-wavelength datasets\, or contribute to community resources and broader SRCNet capabilities. \n\n\n\n\n\n\nFollowing the successful delivery of 8 projects in the inaugural round\, the second round of ASEPs will support projects that: \n\nAdvance Australian SKA precursor science\nContribute to SKA-readiness and SRCNet capabilities\nDevelop sustainable workflows\, software\, or services\nExpand Australia’s capability in radio astronomy\nDeliver impact beyond a single project or user\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nAs the community moves closer to SKA Science Verification and SKA-era science\, this round will continue to support projects connected to SKA science\, SKA precursor data\, and broader SRCNet priorities. Learn more and apply here \nASEP Expressions of Interest (EoIs) open Wednesday 19 August 2026 and close 5pm AWST Wednesday 16 September 2026.

SUMMARY:DEADLINE: Lead Telescope Operations Engineer - SKA-Low Telescope
DESCRIPTION:The SKA Observatory (SKAO) is delivering one of the world’s most ambitious scientific projects\, constructing the largest and most advanced radio telescopes ever built. In Australia\, the SKA-Low telescope is being developed in partnership with CSIRO and will enable transformational science for decades to come\, helping answer some of the biggest questions about our Universe.\nAs the Lead Telescope Operations Engineer\, you will provide strategic technical leadership for the operation and performance of the world’s largest low-frequency radio telescope. You will lead a team of specialist engineers\, oversee the investigation and resolution of complex technical issues\, and play a key role in maintaining and optimising the telescope’s analogue and digital signal chain. Acting as the senior operational engineering escalation point\, you will guide multidisciplinary investigations\, support major incident response activities\, and drive initiatives that improve telescope performance\, reliability and scientific outcomes. \nLearn more and apply here by 20 Sept
