SUMMARY:DEADLINE: AusSRC HPC Funding Applications Close
DESCRIPTION:The Australian SKA Regional Centre (AusSRC) is proud to launch the Astronomy Resources for Industry Applications (ARIA) Program\, a new initiative designed to accelerate innovation through access to high-performance computing (HPC).\nAusSRC is Australia’s contribution to the international SKA Regional Centre Network (SRCNet). The SRCNet will support the global flow of data and processing needed for the SKA telescopes – the two most advanced radio telescopes in the world\, located in Australia and South Africa.\nOne of AusSRC’s goals is to support discovery and delivery of impact beyond radio astronomy. By working with industry to foster data-intensive innovations across sectors\, AusSRC aims to leverage astronomy capabilities to generate broad benefits to the Australian economy and community. \nThe ARIA Program has been established to provide Australian start-ups and small to medium businesses with access to HPC resources to enable innovation in products and services aligned with key technical priorities. \nFor the 2026 inaugural funding round\, AusSRC will support projects focused on: \n\nData Management\nData Visualisation\nData Compression\n\nWe are seeking applications from SMEs and start-ups that would benefit from HPC capability but face barriers accessing research-based or large-scale infrastructure schemes. \nApplications are open to organisations from any industry excluding astronomy that can demonstrate how covering HPC-related expenses would directly enable innovation in one or more of the priority areas. \nFor a full explanation of the ARIA Program\, please refer to the ARIA Program Guidelines and ARIA Program Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs).

SUMMARY:Higher Education Summit: Fit for Purpose? The Future of Governance\, Regulation and Impact of the Australian Higher Education Sector
DESCRIPTION:Australia’s higher education sector stands at a critical juncture. One shaped by enduring constitutional tensions embedded within our federated system. Historically\, universities have operated under a delicate balance between Commonwealth funding and oversight\, and state-based legislative and regulatory frameworks. Recent landmark initiative including the Australian Universities Accord\, the formation of Jobs and Skills Australia\, the establishment of the Australian Tertiary Education Commission (ATEC)\, and changes to student migration policy have amplified these inherent complexities\, reshaping the governance and operation of universities nationwide. \nThe Universities Accord and ATEC\, driven by Commonwealth policy\, seeks to redefine the core purpose\, funding structure\, and accountability measures of universities\, challenging traditional state roles and increasing the Commonwealth’s influence. Concurrently\, tightened student migration restrictions create additional resourcing pressures\, compelling universities to reconsider their recruitment strategies\, internationalisation approaches\, and long-term sustainability. \nThese developments provoke critical policy questions: How can governance arrangements be clarified to enhance institutional autonomy while ensuring accountability to national priorities? To what extent does constitutional considerations limit or enable sector-wide innovation and reform? And importantly\, how can policy coordination between Commonwealth and state governments be strengthened to better support universities? \nJoin senior education executives\, policy leaders\, constitutional experts\, and leading academics to navigate these questions\, and explore practical policy pathways for a resilient\, effective\, and purpose-driven Australian higher education system. \nRegister here: Higher Education Summit: Fit for Purpose? SUMMARY:The Future of Sustainability Virtual Conference
DESCRIPTION:In a rapidly changing world\, where pressure is mounting on the systems we rely on\, the need for bold\, collective action has never been greater. While momentum across the tertiary education sector is growing\, the 23rd ACTS Conference calls on the sector to build on this progress with determination—to deepen our efforts to regenerate\, restore and reimagine what is possible. \nHeld virtually in 2025\, the conference is a powerful equaliser. It welcomes not only sustainability practitioners and educators\, but anyone eager to learn from the sector’s progress and its pressing challenges. From emerging leaders to established changemakers\, all are invited to explore the future of sustainability in a space that prioritises equity\, access and action. \nThrough three dynamic streams—Transforming Practice\, Learning for Change and Building a Just Transition—we will explore the systems\, skills and leadership needed to embed sustainability across institutions and communities. These conversations will highlight the practical strategies that bring sustainability to life\, the role of education and capability building in shaping change\, and the transformative power of governance rooted in values. Central to this is the recognition and amplification of Indigenous knowledge systems that have cared for Country for generations\, along with a commitment to justice\, climate action and community resilience. \nThe theme\, “The Future of Sustainability”\, challenges us to move beyond harm reduction and embrace a mindset of regeneration\, building institutions\, communities and futures that are resilient\, just and thriving.
