These ecosystems are home to ecologically important species and their long-term resilience is vital to Australia’s unique biodiversity\, ecosystem services and environmental health. \nRequest for Partnership 2026 \nWe are now calling for Requests for Partnership for projects aiming to generate high-quality reference genomes and species population data that will enhance the aims and goals of the Genomics for Forest Resilience Initiative. \nSupport provided \nBioplatforms Australia will provide the following resources: \n\nDNA extraction\, where required\nGenomics data generation (whole genome sequencing) support through our network of facilities.\nProject management and data management (raw data storage and access\, with associated metadata).\nThe Genomics for Forest Resilience Initiative will also provide access to the required computing and analytical resources through the Australian BioCommons.

DESCRIPTION:As geopolitics\, trade policies and industrial strategies increasingly influence the life sciences sector\, understanding their impact on global biopharmaceutical innovation has never been more important. \nAugust’s WA Sector Spotlight event\, delivered in collaboration with the U.S. Consulate Perth\, will feature global policy and innovation expert Stephen Ezell\, Vice President for Global Innovation Policy at the Information Technology and Innovation Foundation (ITIF) and Director of ITIF’s Center for Life Sciences Innovation in Washington.\nDrawing on his extensive expertise in innovation policy\, international competitiveness\, trade and manufacturing\, Stephen will explore how the current geopolitical environment is reshaping the global biopharmaceutical sector. His presentation will examine the impact of changing policies such as tariffs and industrial incentives\, the growing emphasis on supporting local innovation and advanced manufacturing\, and the rapid emergence of China as a leading global force in biotechnology innovation. \nThe presentation will be followed by a fireside chat with Dr Tracey Wilkinson\, Director Stakeholder Engagement at the WA Life Sciences Innovation Hub. Together\, they will discuss what these global trends mean for Australia and Western Australia\, the opportunities and challenges facing local innovators\, and how the WA sector can position itself in an increasingly competitive international environment. \nThe WA Spotlight Series is an event series hosted by the WA Life Sciences Innovation Hub\, bringing together representatives from across WA’s biomedical innovation sector. Saskia is supervised by Dr Rodrigo Carlessi\, and will be presenting her work on RNA-based CRISPR-Cas13d therapeutic strategies for hepatocellular carcinoma. While Bac is based at the School of Computer Sciences and has been developing artificial intelligence approaches to predict RNA modifications from Oxford Nanopore direct RNA sequencing data.

DESCRIPTION:The Office of Medical Research and Innovation (OMRI) is pleased to host the fourth event in its 2026 OMRI Speaker Series\, featuring Professor Mirko Uljarevic\, a Future Health Research and Innovation (FHRI) Fund Distinguished Fellow. \nThe OMRI Speaker Series provides a regular forum for thought leadership\, discussion and sector‑wide engagement across Western Australia’s health and medical research and innovation ecosystem. \nIn this session\, Professor Uljarevic will present on Transforming the clinical pathway for children with autism and neurodevelopmental conditions: from big data to novel assessments. Drawing on his FHRI Fund Distinguished Fellowship program\, Professor Uljarevic will share insights into the development of a new generation of assessment tools designed to support screening\, characterisation and intervention matching across both clinical and research contexts. The session will explore how advances in data and assessment approaches can inform more personalised and effective pathways for children with autism and related neurodevelopmental conditions\, with implications for both health services and research. \nParticipation is encouraged either in person or online. This event will be delivered as a hybrid session\, with opportunities for both in‑room and virtual engagement.
