DESCRIPTION:Round 1 industry applications close 23rd February. \nThe iPREP Biodesign program is a newly established initiative between iPREP WA and Perth Biodesign. The program is a collaboration across the Graduate Research Schools of The University Western Australia\, Curtin University\, Edith Cowan University\, Murdoch University and Notre Dame University. It has been developed to help bridge the ‘industry-research divide’ by linking the abilities of Australian Higher Degree by Research students to the development needs of progressive organisations. The program aims to grow Australian industries by harnessing research excellence and to provide students with paid industry placements to gain a competitive advantage across a broad range of future career paths. \nWhat will industry participants gain? \n– A multidisciplinary team of two or three PhD students\n– Cost effective\, potentially eligible for R&D tax incentive & subsidies\n– 100% ownership of intellectual property\n– Select students appropriate to your project and skill-gap\n– ‘Test-drive’ students prior to potential employment\n– A flexible participation mode (virtual\, in-person\, combination) \nProjects are defined by the organisation and can span over a 7 week or 3 month period. Projects may include new research\, proof-of-concept activities or tasks progressing commercial outputs. Students should not undertake day-to-day commercial activities but focus on a short-term research project related to their area of expertise. SUMMARY:Deadline: Innovation Seed Fund 2022
DESCRIPTION:The Innovation Seed Fund provides the opportunity for Western Australian innovators to develop their novel health and medical solutions to prime WA’s commercialisation pipeline\, create high-level health sector jobs and bring innovations that improve the health and wellbeing of the community to realisation. \nFunding will be provided on a competitive basis to innovators with early-stage proposals for novel processes\, products and/or services that demonstrate potential to be commercialised and that may have a major impact on the health and wellbeing of the WA community. \nThe Innovation Seed Fund is open to innovators based in Western Australia. \nSuccessful innovators will be awarded funding of $250\,000 to $500\,000 to undertake key de-risking activities that advance the innovation to a maturity level where it is positioned to attract investment through traditional funding sources to commence\, or progress\, the commercialisation process. Funded activities must be completed within no longer than a two-year period.

DESCRIPTION:iPREP Biodesign is an Australian industry university engagement program that provides PhD students with paid industry opportunities. It is a collaborative program led by the University of Western Australia (UWA) and networks across Curtin University\, Edith Cowan University\, Murdoch University\, University of Notre Dame Australia and Macquarie University. iPREP Biodesign was established in 2020 as an initiative between iPREP WA and Perth Biodesign\, as a result of seed funding from the X-TEND WA program\, New Industries Fund\, managed by the Department of Jobs\, Tourism\, Science\, and Innovation. \niPREP Biodesign matches organisations with a team of multidisciplinary researchers for seven weeks or three months to work on a short-term project relevant to industry. Coupled with specialised training on Biodesign methodology\, the program attracts high calibre\, experienced PhD candidates with a vision to grow Australia’s industry sector through the translation of research.

They aim to revolutionize precision medicine using AI-driven software technologies. These technologies use comprehensive treatment response assessments from imaging scans to improve patient outcomes. \n  \nThe founders\, Dr Robert Jeraj\, Dr Glenn Liu\, Dr George Wilding\, and Ms Dona Alberti worked together for over ten years at the University of Wisconsin Carbone Cancer Center with decades of combined experience in drug development\, clinical trials\, and translational imaging research. \n  \nFrom 2009 to 2015\, Dr Jeraj and Dr Liu leveraged $8M in industry and grant funding to develop the novel methodology underlying AIQ’s products. In January 2015\, AIQ was incorporated. \nAIQ Solutions is now poised for rapid growth with a strong leadership team\, one product fully commercialized\, and a strong pipeline of new products at varying stages of development. In 2020 AIQ established an office in Perth (within the Harry Perkins Institute)\, which is their first office outside the US. \n  \nAbout our speaker Eric Horler – President & CEO\, AIQ Solutions \nEric Horler joined AIQ Solutions as President and CEO in September 2018. \nBefore joining the AIQ team\, Eric was President and CEO of Swallow Solutions LLC\, a medical device start-up with both therapeutic devices and functional beverages for dysphagia patients. At Swallow Solutions\, Eric successfully raised seed capital\, grew the team\, established the supply chain\, drove sales growth\, and executed a complex reimbursement strategy. \nPrior to Swallow Solutions\, Eric was General Manager\, Premium Anesthesia and Respiratory Care at GE Healthcare. While at GEHC\, Eric was responsible for a $220 million global business and a large team spread over three continents.
