Join the University of Western Australia’s Centre for Water & Spatial Science at our Seminar Series launch event on 22nd of August!

Join us on Tuesday, 22nd August 2023 at The University Club of Western Australia as we launch the Centre for Water and Spatial Science (CWSS) seminar series. This exciting event brings together a diverse and interdisciplinary community, encompassing all areas across the University, to foster a rich exchange of ideas and promote innovation.

The Centre is hosted within the UWA School of Agriculture and Environment. CWSS coordinates, promotes, and profiles the critical mass of world-class research capability and capacity at UWA by drawing together individuals across schools including SAgE (School of Agriculture and Environment), School of Earth Sciences and School of Civil, Environmental, and Mining Engineering (Environmental Engineering).

The launch event will be held exclusively in person, however, we understand that not everyone may be able to join us in person due to various constraints. We want to assure you that for our future seminar series, we will be introducing an online component.

Contact: Liena Fordham for any questions – cwss@uwa.edu.au

Centre Co-Directors: Associate Professor Nik Callow, Associate Professor Sally Thompson, and Associate Professor Matt Hipsey

The seminar series aims to explore the topic of “Seeking new water knowledge in a changing climate.” In today’s world, the challenges posed by climate change require us to deepen our understanding of water resources and their management. Through engaging discussions, we will delve into the latest research and advancements in water science, catchment management, and spatial data.

CWSS is built around five core themes:

  • Resilient Landscapes
  • Water and a Changing Climate
  • Catchment to Coasts
  • Data Driven Discovery and Spatial Analytics
  • Research-Teaching Nexus

The CWSS’s expertise perfectly aligns with UWA’s strategic priorities, focusing on environment, food security, economic development, and human health. By joining this event, you will have the opportunity to connect with industry leaders, innovative researchers, and research students who are at the forefront of addressing these critical issues.

The launch event will feature short presentations from lead researchers, providing insights into their ground breaking work. In addition, discussions will allow for in-depth conversations and the exchange of ideas. To ensure an enjoyable experience, we will provide a fully-catered morning tea, allowing participants to network and forge connections with like-minded individuals.

This event is an excellent opportunity to contribute to the advancement of water knowledge and collaborate with a vibrant community of professionals and researchers. We invite you to be a part of this exciting journey as we pave the way for a sustainable future in the face of a changing climate.

Stay tuned for the event program, which will be announced soon. Mark your calendars and prepare to be inspired by the remarkable work happening within the Centre for Water and Spatial Science. Together, let’s make a difference and create lasting solutions for our world’s water challenges.
