SUMMARY:DEADLINE: Green Compute at the Edge Challenge
DESCRIPTION:This Challenge will identify technologies that set a new standard for sustainable compute infrastructure in regional Western Australia (WA)\, at scale\, with genuine benefit to the projects and communities that host them.\nSolutions are invited to match at least one of three use cases: \n\nCarbon-Free Energy\nWater-Positive Cooling\nRegional Integration & Benefits\n\n\n\n\nThe Green Compute at the Edge Innovation Challenge has been curated into two separate tracks\, each inviting different solutions based on technology readiness level (TRL) and geography. The Early disruptors track invites highly disruptive solutions with a strong connection to WA\, in their early stages of development (TRL 3-6)\, while the Near-deployment solutions track is intended for solutions that are ready for real-world piloting and offtake (TRL 7-9). \n\n\nFinalists shortlisted from both streams will progress to a live pitch and judging round during West Tech Fest in Perth in December 2026. \nLearn more about how to get involved here

SUMMARY:Future Textiles CRC Industry Workshop WA
DESCRIPTION:About the Future Textiles CRC \nAustralia is a major producer of high-quality natural fibres\, yet much of this value is exported before downstream processing\, while most finished textile products are imported. Domestic manufacturing capability has declined\, supply chains are fragmented\, and Australia lacks sufficient scale-up\, sorting and recycling capability to capture emerging opportunities in advanced fibres\, technical textiles\, traceability and circular business models. \nThe Future Textiles CRC will provide a national platform connecting fibre producers\, manufacturers\, designers\, brands\, retailers\, recyclers\, researchers\, governments and communities to build a more competitive\, advanced\, circular and resilient Australian textile system. It will support innovation across the full value chain\, from fibre production and manufacturing through to use\, repair\, reuse\, recovery and recycling\, while building the infrastructure\, workforce and collaborative capability needed to retain more value in Australia and create new commercial opportunities. \nThe aim of the industry workshop is to provide an overview of the Future Textiles CRC’s Research Programs – Creating Better Textiles\, Keeping Textiles in Use\, Recovering Textile Value – and seek industry’s inputs and feedback in shaping the research within the CRC. \nFuture Textiles CRC welcomes participation from industries whose interests align with one or more of the Research Programs and the role they can play to help position Australia as a high-value centre for circular textile innovation\, demonstration and commercialisation.

SUMMARY:Space as a Laboratory for Australian Innovation
DESCRIPTION:Engineers are trained to see constraints as problems to be solved. In space\, those constraints include radiation\, isolation\, distance\, microgravity and extreme environments. Hear from Australian astronaut and 2026 Australian of the Year Katherine Bennell-Pegg on how these same challenges can be powerful opportunities for discovery\, innovation and technological advancement. \nKatherine will showcase how the unique conditions of space are a laboratory unlike any other. She will highlight how space-based experimentation is advancing fields including radiation science\, advanced materials\, biomedical engineering\, automation\, remote operations\, quantum technologies\, manufacturing and critical minerals processing. These insights are helping researchers and engineers better understand complex systems\, develop new technologies and test ideas that would be difficult or impossible to explore on Earth. \nFor Australia’s engineering community\, the implications are significant. As access to space-based research and manufacturing expands\, engineers will play a critical role in translating discoveries into real-world products\, infrastructure\, services\, and industries.

SUMMARY:IP Protection for Clinical Research & Health Innovations: What researchers need to know
DESCRIPTION:A strong clinical discovery can lose its path to translation if intellectual property is not considered early enough. Knowing when\, why and how to protect an idea is often the difference between a research project that stays in the lab and one that reaches patients. \nFeaturing Prof Victoria Cogger (CEO\, Sydney Biomedical Accelerator)\, Michael Powell (Commercialisation Manager\, WSLHD)\, Adam Wardell (Industry Growth Program Advisor) and Sylvie Tso (Partner\, Spruson & Ferguson)\, Cicada Innovations is delivering this session with Kids Research/SCHN for clinicians\, researchers and health innovators working on translational projects and emerging health technologies who want a clearer view of how IP protection fits into the work.\nIt covers the practical questions: when protection matters\, why it matters\, and how to approach it in a clinical research setting. Registration is open to all interested attendees. \nBy the end of the masterclass\, you’ll know: \n\nWhen and why to consider IP protection across clinical research\, translational projects and emerging health technologies\nHow clinicians and researchers can approach IP decisions in practice\nThe answers to your live questions during the Q&A\n\nWho it’s for: Clinicians\, researchers\, allied health staff and hospital staff looking to commercialise their research from the public hospital system.

SUMMARY:Seeing Beneath the Surface: Ground-Penetrating Radar (GPR) from Ground-Based Systems to UAV Integration
DESCRIPTION:Seeing Beneath the Surface: Ground-Penetrating Radar (GPR) from Ground-Based Systems to UAV Integration\nA public lecture by Professor Marlene Harter\, Institute for Unmanned Aerial Systems\, Offenburg University. \nThis talk introduces the basic principles of GPR and explores selected applications based on recent research activities. Particular attention will be given to Step-Frequency Continuous-Wave (SFCW) radar\, illustrating how measurements over a wide frequency range can be used to obtain depth-resolved information. Building on ground-based GPR applications\, the presentation will explore the next step of taking GPR into the air using unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs). Current research on the design and integration of GPR antennas for UAV platforms will be presented\, highlighting the potential of combining optimized antenna concepts\, radar sensing\, and autonomous aerial platforms for future subsurface exploration.

SUMMARY:Critical Minerals & Tailings Monthly Webinar
DESCRIPTION:How can the mining sector move beyond waste management and unlock greater value from the resources it already produces? \nIn this webinar\, Professor Päivi Kinnunen from VTT will explore how circular economy principles are transforming mining into a more sustainable\, resource-efficient and value-driven industry. The presentation will demonstrate how circular solutions can reduce waste\, recover critical raw materials and create new business opportunities from mining side streams. \nDrawing on lessons from commercial tailings reprocessing projects and emerging examples of tailings reuse and mineral residue upcycling\, Professor Kinnunen will highlight practical pathways for maximising resource recovery and extending the value of mined materials. A featured case will examine the extraction of critical raw materials from tailings\, showcasing the potential for previously discarded materials to become valuable resources for future supply chains. \nAttendees will gain insights into the technologies\, opportunities and challenges associated with advancing circularity in the mining sector\, and learn how innovative approaches can contribute to both environmental sustainability and economic resilience. \nProfessor Päivi Kinnunen is a Research Professor at VTT\, Finland’s Technical Research Centre. Her research focuses on the industrial circular economy\, valorisation of mining side streams\, process development and closing water loops.
