SUMMARY:WA Games Industry Council (WAGIC) Connect
DESCRIPTION:Build the Business Behind Your Game\nMaking a great game is only half the challenge. Building a sustainable studio\, finding the right opportunities\, securing funding\, and connecting with the people who can help your project succeed are equally important. \nWestern Australia’s games industry continues to grow\, but opportunities for developers to learn directly from funders\, advisers\, experienced studio leaders and industry partners remain limited. WAGIC Connect was created to bring those people\, conversations and opportunities together in one place. \nThis inaugural one-day event marks WAGIC’s first dedicated business-to-business event for the Western Australian games industry\, bringing together experienced founders\, funders\, advisers and industry leaders for a focused day of practical business knowledge\, meaningful conversations and valuable networking. Held in the Perth CBD immediately before Pixel Expo Perth\, WAGIC Connect is designed to help developers make better business decisions\, build stronger industry connections and create more sustainable careers in games.\nWAGIC Connect is proudly supported by the City of Perth as Civic Partner. \nWhat You’ll Walk Away With\n\nReach the Right Audience – Learn how to identify your players\, build an audience\, and create marketing strategies that support your game’s long-term success.\nBuild Strong Business Foundations – Understand company structures\, financial systems\, cashflow management and the practical decisions that help creative projects become sustainable businesses.\nNavigate Funding Opportunities – Hear directly from Screenwest and local developers about funding applications\, project delivery\, reporting requirements and lessons learned.\nProtect Your Work – Gain practical insights into intellectual property\, contracts and legal considerations before approaching publishers\, investors or commercial partners.\nExpand Your Network – Connect with fellow developers\, founders\, funders and professional advisers from across Western Australia’s growing games sector.\n\nLearn directly from industry experts including Luke Henry (LDB Accounting)\, Anthony Sweet (Screenwest)\, and Andrea Alford (Cam Rogers Legal)\, alongside marketing discussions and developer panels featuring studios that have successfully secured funding and grown their businesses. \nNetworking Drinks\nThe day concludes with informal networking drinks at Little Creatures Perth\, giving attendees an opportunity to continue conversations with speakers\, panelists\, industry partners and fellow developers.

SUMMARY:Grown in WA: Backing the Regions to lead with Purpose
DESCRIPTION:WA’s regions are full of innovation and enterprise but also facing real social challenges too. This is an invite-only working lunch roundtable bringing together leaders from across regional WA to talk about what’s already working\, and what’s still needed.\nWe’ll explore how to leverage what’s already there\, grow value in place\, and back social entrepreneurship as part of the answer. That means learning from each other across regions\, building the workforce and industries of the future\, and keeping profit and opportunity reinvested in WA rather than flowing out. \nThe WA Social Enterprise Council (WASEC) exists to back social enterprise as a genuine solution for WA\, and the regions are central to that. Numbers are deliberately limited to keep the conversation sharp and the outcomes real. This is the start of a plan for regional investment\, and everyone at the table will help shape it. \nPriority will be given to WASEC members and guests travelling to Perth for the Awards event that night. \nPlaces are limited\, so please RSVP to register. We will send more details about the agenda once we know numbers.

SUMMARY:Industry Partners Series: membrane solutions for minerals and water
DESCRIPTION:Australia holds world-class reserves of lithium\, rare earths\, cobalt and other critical minerals central to clean energy systems\, advanced manufacturing\, defence capability and supply-chain resilience. Yet most value is still realised at the mining stage\, with downstream processing constrained by high energy demand\, intensive chemical use\, water consumption\, waste generation and process complexity. \nThis seminar examines how membrane technology can unlock the next phase of sustainable Direct Critical Mineral Extraction. Advanced membrane processes enable selective separation\, concentration and purification of target elements from brines\, leachates\, tailings and industrial waste streams. When properly designed\, these systems can reduce water and chemical inputs\, lower environmental impact and improve overall process efficiency. \nDrawing on recent research from Edith Cowan University’s Mineral Recovery Research Centre\, Dr Amir Razmjou will present emerging membrane-based approaches for extracting lithium\, rubidium\, high-purity alumina and rare earth elements. Dr Mehdi Shirazi will explore process development pathways\, pilot-scale validation and integration into industrial operations. \nThe seminar demonstrates how membrane innovation\, supported by strong university\, industry and government collaboration\, can help Australia move beyond raw material export and build sovereign capability in clean\, low-carbon critical mineral processing.

SUMMARY:From core story to successful commercialisation [ACS Webinar]
DESCRIPTION:This session is designed for founders\, researchers\, innovators\, technologists\, commercialisation teams\, startup leaders\, and organisations seeking to move beyond technical validation into market momentum. It is particularly relevant for people working on emerging technologies\, deep tech\, AI\, sustainability\, infrastructure\, or mission-driven ventures attempting to bridge the gap between invention and adoption.\nKey Takeaways: \n\nUnderstand how to determine whether an innovation solves a problem people viscerally care about rather than simply admire intellectually.\nGain practical frameworks for testing assumptions early and reducing the risk of building products without commercial pull.\nExplore how emerging ventures can create category leadership before markets fully mature.\nLearn how to articulate a venture’s deeper strategic significance so it resonates with customers\, media\, investors\, policymakers\, and partners.\nUnderstand how communications\, positioning\, and storytelling can operate as strategic infrastructure rather than marketing decoration.\nDevelop a stronger ability to identify hidden leverage points that can accelerate traction and cultural relevance.

SUMMARY:From Idea to Business: First Steps [workshop]
DESCRIPTION:From Idea to Business: First Steps\nMost innovators end up pitching an idea\, not a business. The idea is often excellent. But an idea is not something a customer can buy\, an investor can back\, or a partner can rely on – and the gap between the two is where most good ideas quietly stall. Closing that gap is not one big leap. It is a handful of first steps\, taken in the right order. \nThis 90-minute workshop is for innovators and early-stage founders who have an idea and are trying to figure out those first practical steps. It is hands-on. You will leave with your own answers written down\, not a set of slides. \nWhat we will cover\n\nUnderstanding what you want\, and how that shapes the business (30 mins)\nYour personal goals dictate the form your business should take. Licensing\, lifestyle business\, high-growth venture\, or something else – each suits a different founder. Get this wrong and you will spend years building something you do not want.\n\nYour secret sauce: intellectual property and your unique selling proposition\n\nWhat do you actually own\, and why would a customer choose you over the alternative? Two questions every founder gets asked and few can answer clearly.\n\nCustomers\, investors and the priority actions\n\nWho needs to say yes\, in what order\, and what does each of them need to see before they will?\n\nBringing it together: your 100 day plan\n\nThe difference between momentum and busyness is a plan. You will build the first one hundred days of yours.\n\nWho should come \n\nInnovators\, technical founders and anyone with an idea they are serious about. No business background assumed. No jargon\, no consultant-speak.\n\nDetails \nThursday 20 August 2026\, 10:00am to 11:30am | Saltwater\, Busselton | Free to attend. Places strictly limited to 12. | Bring your laptop or notebook! \nAbout Experia Growth \nExperia Growth is a Perth-based startup with 100+ years of combined experience across startups\, scale-ups and enterprise. Our flagship business build\, LaunchFocus\, turns a raw idea into a properly structured\, funding-ready business in 12 months. \nwww.experiagrowth.com.au
