DESCRIPTION:The University of Sydney invites engagement on the design of a new vehicle for funding the commercialisation of University-linked startups and spinouts.\nThe University of Sydney has estimated that its growing portfolio of high potential research-derived ventures will require more than A$200 million in capital in the coming years. To help address this emerging need\, the University aims to establish a new venture capital partnership to support the commercialisation and scaling of University-linked startups and spinouts. \nThe new engagement process invites experienced capital providers to help shape a model that reflects market realities\, policy settings and the long‑term needs of university‑linked ventures. The result could take a range of forms\, including a single fund\, a co-investment platform\, or a hybrid approach. \nThey are looking for responses from experienced venture capital providers (domestic or international) with a demonstrated focus on venture or growth investing.

SUMMARY:DEADLINE: Genomics for Forest Resilience Initiative – Request for Partnership 2026
DESCRIPTION:Australia’s forests are facing increasing pressures from climate change\, invasive pests and habitat fragmentation. These ecosystems are home to ecologically important species and their long-term resilience is vital to Australia’s unique biodiversity\, ecosystem services and environmental health. \nRequest for Partnership 2026 \nWe are now calling for Requests for Partnership for projects aiming to generate high-quality reference genomes and species population data that will enhance the aims and goals of the Genomics for Forest Resilience Initiative. \nSupport provided \nBioplatforms Australia will provide the following resources: \n\nDNA extraction\, where required\nGenomics data generation (whole genome sequencing) support through our network of facilities.\nProject management and data management (raw data storage and access\, with associated metadata).\nThe Genomics for Forest Resilience Initiative will also provide access to the required computing and analytical resources through the Australian BioCommons.

SUMMARY:Industry Partners Series: membrane solutions for minerals and water
DESCRIPTION:Australia holds world-class reserves of lithium\, rare earths\, cobalt and other critical minerals central to clean energy systems\, advanced manufacturing\, defence capability and supply-chain resilience. Yet most value is still realised at the mining stage\, with downstream processing constrained by high energy demand\, intensive chemical use\, water consumption\, waste generation and process complexity. \nThis seminar examines how membrane technology can unlock the next phase of sustainable Direct Critical Mineral Extraction. Advanced membrane processes enable selective separation\, concentration and purification of target elements from brines\, leachates\, tailings and industrial waste streams. When properly designed\, these systems can reduce water and chemical inputs\, lower environmental impact and improve overall process efficiency. \nDrawing on recent research from Edith Cowan University’s Mineral Recovery Research Centre\, Dr Amir Razmjou will present emerging membrane-based approaches for extracting lithium\, rubidium\, high-purity alumina and rare earth elements. Dr Mehdi Shirazi will explore process development pathways\, pilot-scale validation and integration into industrial operations. \nThe seminar demonstrates how membrane innovation\, supported by strong university\, industry and government collaboration\, can help Australia move beyond raw material export and build sovereign capability in clean\, low-carbon critical mineral processing.
