DESCRIPTION:NCMAS provides access\, based on research and computational merit\, for researchers at Australian universities and publicly funded research agencies\, to resources at the major national HPC facilities. \nNCMAS supports HPC simulations\, data processing and AI/ML. Quantum computing is also available via Setonix-Q – a portal for Australian researchers to run hybrid quantum–classical workflows. \nThe NCMAS 2027 Call for Applications is expected to be highly competitive. Last year: \n\nAbout 884 million SU (service units) in total were awarded to applicants at the two\nHPC facilities\, NCI and the Pawsey Supercomputing Centre.\nAllocated resources were only ~40% of the total requested resources\, with the\nscheme more than 2.5x oversubscribed.\n110 of 235 applications (~47%) received allocations on one or more of the HPC\nfacilities.\n\nThe National Computational Merit Allocation Scheme is Australia’s premiere grant scheme for access to high-performance computing (HPC) resources. The two Tier-1 HPC facilities in Australia\, the National Computational Infrastructure (NCI) and the Pawsey Supercomputing Research Centre\, together offer hundreds of millions of hours of computing time to meritorious researchers.

DESCRIPTION:The Regional Challenge Research Initiative (RCRI) is a multi-country\, challenge-driven applied research grants initiative.\nThe RCRI funds 12- to 15-month collaborative projects that produce practical tools\, models\, knowledge and data that can be adapted across diverse Asia-Pacific contexts\, aligned to specific challenges facing the Asia-Pacific region. Three challenges will be issued\, and successful projects will be those that demonstrate the highest potential to address the challenge. \nProgramme highlights\n\nGrant funding of between AUD $50\,000 and up to $145\,000\nSupports cross-border collaboration in Asia and the Pacific – regional consortia involving one Australian organisation and at least two other institutions based in the Asia-Pacific\, excluding Australia.\nSupports cross-sectoral collaboration – researchers are invited to apply with partners outside academia including industry\, government\, philanthropy and civil society organisations.\nPractical outputs and/or translation pathway encouraged.\n\nAbout the Alpha Cohort of RCRI\nThe Alpha Cohort is the first funding round of the Regional Challenge Research Initiative. The Alpha Cohort will deliver multi-country applied research projects that address the challenge of circular economy\, waste reduction and sustainable resource use for regional resilience in the Asia-Pacific region.  \nAn approximate total of AUD $580\,000 is available for this round. The program is expected to fund 4-5 collaborative projects\, with individual grants of between AUD $50\,000 and AUD $145\,000. Projects must be completed within 12–15 months. \nFor this round\, Circular Economy should be understood as practical system change that improves how materials and resources are designed\, produced\, used\, retained\, recovered and reintegrated across supply chains and communities. \nCompetitive proposals will show how the project can contribute to value retention\, resource efficiency and regional resilience\, with clear pathways to adoption and benefit in diverse Asia-Pacific contexts. \n\nCall opens: 19 August 2026\nApplications close: Monday\, 5 October 2026 at 11:59PM AEDT

It increases the visibility of academic entrepreneurs and their companies and helps them secure future investment.\nThe Spinoff Prize focuses on spinoff companies founded on research in life sciences or physical sciences\, both of which can include digital technology approaches including artificial intelligence\, deep learning\, neuromorphic computing\, and quantum computing. \nFinalist spinoffs will pitch to the slam panels live at the Curious2027 – Future Insight™ conference\, after which one winner will receive a €30\,000 cash prize. All eligible applicants will receive a free online ticket to the Curious2027 – Future Insight™ conference. \nWe define a spinoff as a company that has been formed specifically to commercialise the outputs generated from research conducted at a university or research institute.
