DESCRIPTION:Energy Efficiency Grants for Small and Medium Enterprises Round 2\n\nThe grant opportunity provides eligible small and medium businesses up to $25\,000 to purchase energy efficient equipment to reduce and manage energy usage and costs. \n\n\nWhat do you get?\nA grant of up to $25\,000\, to cover up to 100% of eligible expenditure. There is a total of $41.241 million available for this grant opportunity. \nGrant funding will be distributed between states and territories based on the distribution of small and medium sized businesses nationally. Refer to Appendix A in the grant opportunity guidelines for a breakdown of funding in each jurisdiction. \nWe expect that there may be a high level of interest for this grant opportunity\, and it may be oversubscribed. This is a demand driven grant opportunity. Grants will be awarded to eligible applicants on a first come\, first served basis until the funding is exhausted in each jurisdiction. \nWho is this for?\nThis grant opportunity is for small and medium sized businesses with an employee headcount of 1 to 199 employees. \n\n\n\n\nOverview\n\nThe Energy Efficiency Grants for Small and Medium Sized Enterprises Round 2 will support businesses to upgrade or replace inefficient equipment to improve their energy efficiency. These upgrades will enable industries to reduce their energy use\, manage energy cost volatility in the long term and contribute to Australia’s target of a 43% reduction on 2005 emission levels by 2030. \nThe objectives of the program are: \n\nimprove energy efficiency practices and increase the uptake of energy efficient technologies\nassist small and medium businesses to manage their energy usage and costs\nreduce greenhouse gas emissions.\n\nThe intended outcomes of the program are: \n\nincrease awareness of energy efficiency opportunities and help businesses to save energy\nreduced power bills for small and medium businesses\nemissions abatement to contribute to Australia reducing its emissions to 43% below 2005 levels by 2030.

DESCRIPTION:The Foundation for the WA Museum has opened applications for the science communication training program and competition FameLab Australia 2024. Early career researchers have until Sunday 7 April 2024 to submit their application.  \nFameLab is the world’s leading science communication competition created by Cheltenham Festivals\, UK. Since 2007 the competition has gone global in over 35 countries\, with more than 40\,000 young scientists participating to date. FameLab is recognised as being a powerful tool in identifying and nurturing new voices of science\, with previous alumni developing careers in science communication. \nThe Foundation for the Western Australian Museum is the producer of FameLab Australia. The focus of FameLab Australia is to promote excellence in science communication for early career STEM researchers in universities and industry. The competition is open to early career STEM researchers currently completing postgraduate studies or who are within five years of completing their postgraduate degrees. \nFameLab Australia has a focus on STEM in recognition of the role of research to drive innovation and economic prosperity for contemporary economies. FameLab equips early career researchers with skills that are directly relevant to their career and improve their public speaking\, media skills\, pitching and presentation skills. FameLab develops them into science advocates who can confidently communicate with industry\, grant bodies\, government and employers\, as well as engage young Australians to take up STEM subjects and careers. \nParticipants undergo an in-depth science communication training program\, and learn to communicate their science research in just three minutes. Contestants are judged according to the 3 Cs of FameLab: Content\, Clarity\, and Charisma. \nIn 2023\, 76 applicants from across Australia received science communication training\, with 48 scientists shortlisted to compete in 4 regional\, online Semi-finals and receiving further training. \nOut of the 48 semi-finalists\, 12 finalists were selected\, who received further masterclass training and then travelled to Perth for an immersive\, intensive multi-day science communication workshop and the live Final at WA Museum Boola Bardip. \nOlivia Carroll\, an immunologist and microbiologist representing the University of Newcastle and Hunter Medical Research Institute\, was named the 2023 Australian FameLab winner and competed in the online FameLab International Final in November 2023. As the Australian FameLab winner\, Olivia won a trip to the Cheltenham Science Festival 2024. \nWayne Lubbe\, the Foundation’s FameLab Project Manager commented\, “FameLab is such an incredible journey. Following the weekend\, only the strongest founders are selected to continue into Phase One\, which includes nine weeks filled with Entrepreneur in Residence sessions\, masterclasses with industry experts\, 1 on 1 mentoring and more. \nFounders then pitch for their place in Phase Two\, where a final 6-12 startups will be chosen to continue and access a pool of seed-funding. Phase Two includes an international immersion and final Demo Night.
