SUMMARY:DEADLINE: Australian Angel Awards
DESCRIPTION:Techboard is pleased to be back with the Australian Angel Awards for another year\, this time with a new partner\, Angel Loop. \nThe purpose of these awards is to celebrate the contribution Angel investors make to the startup ecosystem and overall economy and community  in Australia. Angel investors not only provide their own money as capital to startups and early stage businesses\, they are also generally active in their support of their investee companies\, providing guidance\, mentoring\, introductions and more. \nEntries for the Awards have been extended until Midnight on 7 November 2023. \nThe categories for 2023 have been modified in recognition of shifts in the Investment Landscape in Australia. With greater emphasis being placed on the more philanthropic role Angel investment can play in the Australian and global community we have introduced an award for the Biggest Impact Angel Investment.  Consistent with the work that many groups have been doing to help ensure that founders from diverse backgrounds are able to obtain investment into their startups we have introduced an award to celebrate a Champion of Investment Diversity. \nThese add to the five existing categories\, although we have made some changes there as well. We are now only counting new angel investments rather than including follow-on investments as we have done in previous years. \nMost active Angel group assessed by the highest number of confirmed new Angel investments made during FY23. \nMost active regional Angel group for angel groups based outside of a capital city\, assessed by the highest number of confirmed new Angel investments. \nMost active Angel investor assessed by the highest number of confirmed new Angel investments. \nAngel Investor of the year to be awarded to Angel investor who has made a significant contribution to the Australian Angel investment community as assessed by the judging panel – taking into account not just the investor’s investment activity\, but also their impact on the angel investor community through education\, support\, promotion or other activities. \nBest Angel Exit of the year assessed to be the most financially successful exit of an Angel investment. \nIndividual Angel investors and Angel investment groups from across the country participate in the awards which are based on a data-driven assessment as well as an expert judging panel. \nEntries into the awards also supplement Techboard’s capture of startup funding data available to our subscribers and are covered in our reports on startup and young tech company funding. \nThis year the winners of the awards will be presented at an event to be held in conjunction with the Perth Angels during the West Tech Fest in December 2023.

SUMMARY:Practical Lean Manufacturing Solutions for the F&B Industry
DESCRIPTION:Common challenges faced by F&B manufacturers will be responded to with practical lean solutions that deliver operational performance \n\n\n\n\nPractical Lean Manufacturing Solutions for the Food and Beverage Industry \nStarting with a career in the packaging industry and then moving to Lean consulting\, Tim McLean has worked with Food and Beverage manufacturing for over 25 years. Lean manufacturing was developed for discrete assembly line manufacturing in the automotive industry. As a result many food and beverage manufacturers struggle to adopt this approach to their businesses. \nTim’s F&B clients range from global giants such as Mars Foods and Asahi Beverages through to over 100 F&B SMEs in eight countries across agri-business\, food service\, ingredients\, baking\, confectionery and juice manufacture segments. \nIn this presentation\, Tim will discuss common challenges that food and beverage manufacturers face and how simple and practical Lean solutions can help overcome these problems and deliver better operational performance.

SUMMARY:Lean Startup First-Timers: Getting Started with Customer Development!
DESCRIPTION:This introductory “Getting Started” meeting is for founders (and potential founders) who are first-timers to Lean Startup Perth (or those who wish to get a refresher on Lean Startup). It’s best for you to attend one of these meeting before attending a “Getting On” meeting (although it’s not required). \nHello Perth Founders and Friends\, \nHave you got a great startup idea? Or have you already started a new business and it’s not going so well? Don’t waste any more time or money on building an app or product\, getting PR\, or even marketing. Come along to Lean Startup Perth and we’ll help you find a successful business. \nThis “Getting Started” meeting will introduce you the “big ideas” in Lean Startup and Customer Development. Did you know that Lean Startups don’t do sales\, don’t do marketing and don’t do product development? Well\, what do they do then? Come along and you will find out that and more\, \nCreated by Eric Ries and Steve Blank\, the Lean Startup with Customer Development approach is a radically new way of doing startups. It changes everything about startups (more than most founders\, service providers and investors realise). It changes the very meaning of what it is to be a startup. \nWe suggest new members come along to one of these “Getting Started” meetings to learn about Lean Startup with Customer Development before coming the to “Getting On” meetings. This “Getting Started” meetings are repeated but will only run if there are enough new members attending. \nWe welcome anyone keen to learn about Lean Startup with Customer Development. \nAll the best for success! \nCheers\,\nAshley. \nOrganiser\, Lean Startup Perth.

SUMMARY:Webinar: Ethics & Social Licence in the Blue Economy
DESCRIPTION:This webinar will discuss ethics\, integrity and social acceptance in the Blue Economy\, delving into the nature of ‘integrity systems’ and their importance along with exploring the social license to operate.\n\n\n\nSocial license to operate in itself can have different meanings to different people and can be used in ways that are ethically constructive or ethically problematic. \nPresentation 1: Ethics and integrity in the Blue Economy\nPresented by: Professor Charles Sampford\, IEGL Director: Institute for Ethics\, Governance & Law\, Griffith University \nThis presentation will discuss the nature of ethics and integrity for individuals\, institutions\, profit-seeking enterprises\, and overall systems\, emphasizing the importance of ‘integrity systems’. An integrity system is the sum total of all elements in a system\, including laws\, incentives\, standards\, institutions and ethical norms. These elements\, and their relations and interactions\, shape behaviour and deliver outcomes. The system has integrity if it delivers on its promise: on the values that justify it. A Blue Economy integrity system is therefore made up of the ethical norms\, laws\, organisations\, and market forces in the marine industry space that determine whether the system will live up to the high ideals it seeks to achieve. \nPresentation 2: Social licence in the Blue Economy\nPresented by: Dr Hugh Breakey\, Senior Research Fellow: Institute for Ethics\, Governance & Law\, Griffith University \nThe social license to operate (SLO) is an ambiguous term and a challenging feature of many contemporary industries\, including Blue Economy industries. This presentation will discuss different ways of understanding the SLO\, through definitions\, analogies\, and its absence. It will explore how the SLO can work (or fail to work) in different cases as an ethical tool\, activist weapon\, corporate shield\, or empty buzzword. It will describe four different strategies that give rise to different types of SLO (Genuine SLO; Strategic SLO\, Tick-box SLO; and Default SLO)\, each with different risk profiles.
