SUMMARY:Lean Startup Perth
DESCRIPTION:What we’re about \nLean Startup Perth is a weekly informal meeting for anyone interested in learning more about Lean Startup (Eric Ries) and Customer Development (Steve Blank). We discuss issues facing startups\, chapters from relevant books and\, in particular\, how the concepts and practices may apply to our startups. Everyone is welcome to attend! \nWhilst we focus on tech startups and founders are our target audience you don’t have to be a founder or involved with a startup to come along. All you need to be is interested in learning about Lean Startup and Customer Development. We also ask that regular participants take turns in leading the discussion of a chapter or a special topic. \nPlease be clear though that this group is not for just starting a businesses. Startups are defined by their uncertainty (some aspect of their business model has never been used before) and often (but not always) a huge growth potential. As Steve Blank says “are temporary organisations searching for a repeatable and scalable business model.” \nA Lean Startup’s approach is to hypothesise\, build\, measure\, and learn as fast as possible to reduce this uncertainty and risk\, to validate (or not) hypotheses about the product/service and business model. This differs from the traditional approach to startups that usually involves building something and hoping customers will come. \nIf you’d like to catchup briefly to discuss you can schedule a virtual catchup. \nhttps://calendly.com/ashley-aitken/lean-startup \nCheers\,\nAshley Aitken \nOrganiser – Lean Startup Perth

SUMMARY:Geological Knowledge Discovery using Machine Augmented Intelligence
DESCRIPTION:With the increasing use of artificial intelligence and machine learning in our daily lives such as for information search\, online shopping\, and virtual assistant AIs\, the geoscience domain has also been active in the uptake of machine learning and AI to assist in interpreting geology from data. \nThis talk presents innovative machine-assisted technologies that improve the efficiency and the robustness of geological interpretation of different types of geodata used in the resource industry. \nA number of applications of machine learning were developed in collaboration with the mining industry for the analysis and integration of multi-modal drill hole data. These applications integrate the algorithms and workflows to assist human decisions. The approach is to provide end users the control of the algorithmic process as much as possible; and to enable a seamless integration of algorithms in the interpreter’s workflow using interactive visualisation. \nThis talk also presents ongoing AI research that extracts geological insights from documents using machine reading of text. It applies advanced text mining methods and constructs a graph-based knowledge base called a knowledge graph to store and access geological information. Case studies on different mineral deposits demonstrate the effectiveness of the methods for rapidly and robustly transforming text data into structured information that faithfully represents the contents of the source reports.

SUMMARY:Masterclass: Navigating the new normal of Diversity\, Equity and Inclusion 2022
DESCRIPTION:There have been a lot of important events in the world of D&I in recent years including the #MeToo movement\, increasing sexual harassment claims\, the Respect@Work report\, and Grace Tame winning Australian of the Year in 2021. One of the key barriers to progressing gender equality is that people feel uncomfortable discussing the topic and themes in the workplace. This is due to a number of reasons including the complexity of the subject\, fear of upsetting people and fear of saying the wrong thing. In this quickly changing DEI landscape it is vital that all voices are heard and we have balanced conversations. \nThis masterclass will open the door for men and women to step through together with confidence into this new world. We need to acknowledge that there is fear and address the emotions so that we can get comfortable with the new normal of DEI. It doesn’t have to be a perilous journey. This masterclass will help attendees demystify the language and gain a better understanding of the important topics. Let’s keep it simple and focus on what matters most in what it is really going to take to advance gender equality. \nBrought to you by Women in Technology WA (WiTWA)\, this masterclass will open the door for men and women to step through with confidence into this new world. We need to acknowledge that there is fear and we address the emotions so that we can get comfortable with the new normal of DEI. It doesn’t have to be a perilous journey.
