She is the CEO/Managing Director at OncoRes Medical\, which has developed a handheld device for monitoring the margin tumours during breast cancer surgery. OncoRes Medical has raised more than $12 million and received US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) approval last year.\n\nWith entrepreneurial experience in creating medical apps\, diagnostics and fitness devices\, Dr Giles has worked in partnership with Breast Care WA and the McGrath Foundation. DESCRIPTION:Collaborate with industry and academic leaders. Learn design thinking tools. Solve wicked problems. Gain new\, in-demand skills! \n\n\n\nThe Students Doing Good Sustainability Challenge brings you together with other WA University students\, industry and academic mentors to consider solutions to one of four Sustainable Development Goals: \nSDG 2: Zero Hunger \nSDG 8: Decent Work and Economic Growth \nSDG 12: Responsible Consumption and Production \nSDG13: Climate Action \nYou’ll learn and practice design thinking to innovate solutions to wicked problems in one of these SDGs\, work in a team to develop your solution into a presentation\, and pitch your idea to a panel of subject matter experts. \nThe SDG Challenge is a 100% online event. Students enrolled at any WA University (Onshore and International campuses) can join and gain the experience of collaborating with entrepreneurs\, industry innovators and academic leaders to develop innovative solutions on a local or global scale. Present your team’s pitch in a 5 minute video. \nTo get the most from your SDG Challenge experience\, you should be available to join online for the following key events\, as well as have some availability between these dates to work on your team’s project\, at times/ dates that you all agree upon:\n31 July 2023\, 4-6pm: Get inspired! Meet the Mentors. Join a SDG Challenge team and decide with your mentor how and when they can support your team. \n7 August 2023\, 4-7pm: Design Thinking workshop led by design thinking expert\, Dr Chris Kueh (Edith Cowan University) plus mentor-supported collaboration time. \n21 August 2023: Deadline for your team to submit its 5 minute video pitch. \n28 August 2023: Join online for a review of all the video pitches and the annoucement of the 2023 Students Doing Good Challenge winning team! \nIn addition to an overall winner\, recognition of capability will be awarded to teams who demonstrate skill in the four judging criteria: \nIntegration How well does the team’s pitch demonstrate consideration of how the chosen SDG connects with other SDGs? \nInclusion How well does the pitch demonstrate consideration of relevant stakeholders to the project? \nInnovation Is the pitch proposing a new approach that is actionable and impactful? \nInterrogation How well has the team explored the problem statement\, and demonstrated application of design thinking concepts and principles?
