DESCRIPTION:Applications are open for the Australian Academy of Technological Sciences & Engineering’s Elevate: Boosting diversity in STEM program. The Elevate program aims to address gender inequities in STEM through fostering more industry-academia collaborations in applied research and business\, growing professional skills of women and non-binary people in STEM and propelling women and non-binary people into leadership.   \nThe Elevate program provided scholarships to women and non-binary people to study undergraduate STEM degrees\, postgraduate STEM degrees\, and current STEM professionals to study degrees to improve business acumen. In addition to a scholarship\, the Elevate Program provides access to skill-building workshops\, peer mentoring and networking events\, and 24-hour wellbeing and psychosocial support. \nAnyone interested in learning more about the program and applying for the 2026 intake is invited to join ATSE for a public online information session.

Late AOF applications cannot be accepted. If you wish to claim the offset for R&D activities conducted overseas\, you must obtain a positive overseas finding first. Advance findings for activities conducted solely in Australia are not mandatory but will give you certainty about the eligibility of those activities for up to 3 years. \nAn updated version of the AOF form was released last year. DESCRIPTION:Professor Geoff Brooks from Swinburne University of Technology will provide insights into technologies that are helping to decarbonise the iron and steel industry. The webinar will explore approaches employing: \n\nElectrolysis: using electrical energy to directly reduce iron ore without fossil fuels\nBiomass: sustainable carbon sources as alternatives to coal and coke\nMetallothermic reduction: using metals with higher affinity for oxygen than iron to reduce iron oxide to metallic iron.\n\nProfessor Brooks will also delve into associated carbon capture\, utilisation and storage (CCUS) technologies essential for transitioning to low-carbon steelmaking\, focusing on recent trials such as Steelanol in Belgium.
