SUMMARY:Mapping the Circular Economy of WA – Tour | Talk | Sundowner
DESCRIPTION:Join us for our last event of 2023! \nWe’re excited to host our last event of the year at the Legacy Living Lab (L3) where we will be joined by Roberto Minunno and Josh Hopkins who will be giving us a tour of L3\, its purpose and an insight into the WATCH project – Mapping the circular economy of WA – monitoring the contributions of circularity towards achieving Net Zero: Stage 1. \nWe will finish the event with a sundowner with drinks and nibbles provided. \nThe Legacy Living Lab (L3) is the first building in Western Australia that is both modular and designed for disassembly and reuse. L3 is constructed on recyclable steel footings\, saving 20 tons of concrete. The building is not welded\, glued or fixed\, instead it harnesses nuts and bolts\, spacers and magnets.\nIn three years\, it will be disassembled in a day or two and moved elsewhere. If L3 had been built in a regular fashion\, with end of life going to landfill\, then the greenhouse gas equivalent impact would have been 50 tons. Life cycle assessment for L3 demonstrates only 5 tons of greenhouse gas equivalent impact. Designing for reuse provides a factor 10 environmental improvement. \nRoberto Minunno \nRoberto is a subject matter expert in circular economy and sustainable\, modular building design\, and life cycle assessment. With a background in civil engineering\, Roberto is driven to create solutions to sustainability and circular economy challenges. He completed his PhD on the circular economy of buildings at Curtin University\, where\, among other methods\, he developed expertise in applying Life Cycle Assessments and circular economy indicators to products and processes. As part of his PhD\, Roberto and the team at Curtin University Sustainable Policy (CUSP) Institute ideated the Legacy Living Lab: a moveable\, disassemble\, modular building\, enabling a deeper understanding and application of the circular economy concerning building materials\, components and operations. The Living Lab is currently in Fremantle where it hosts a hub of research activity and industry collaborations. \nJosh Hopkins \nA product and data specialist. His focus is on human-centred digital transformation\, for the betterment of people and the planet. He is also a research associate at Curtin University Sustainability Policy Institute (CUSP)\, European institute of Innovation and Technology (EIT) alumni\, TEDx speaker\, and award-winning entrepreneur. He is the Founding Director of Open Corridor\, a data-driven nonprofit focused on democratising sustainability intelligence.\n\nRun Sheet \n4.00pm – Registrations and Networking \n4.30pm – Tour of L3 and insight into WATCH project \n5.00pm – Sundowner\, networking and nibbles \n6.00pm – Event finish

SUMMARY:An evening with Marc Koska OBE and Philip Leslie
DESCRIPTION:Join the WA Life Sciences Innovation Hub for an evening of conversation with Marc Koska OBE and Philip Leslie (ApiJect). \n\n\n\nJoin the WA Life Sciences Innovation Hub for an evening of conversation with Marc Koska OBE and Philip Leslie about developing innovative drug delivery devices for the global healthcare market and the ApiJect story. Refreshments and networking to follow. \nEvery year\, more than 1 million people are killed due to syringe reuse and unsafe injection practices in healthcare facilities. \nIn the 1980’s\, Marc’s innovative auto-disable syringe prevented the spread of disease and infection\, helping save more than 12 million lives. Marc is now co-founder and Head of R&D of ApiJect Systems\, a company developing an innovative new drug delivery platform with the potential to enable more liquid medicines and vaccines to safely reach more patients across the world. \nMarc is joined by ApiJect’s Senior Advisor\, Manufacturing Philip Leslie\, whose exceptional service of more than 30 years’ pharmaceutical manufacturing experience has seen him inducted into Victoria’s Manufacturing Hall of Fame in 2017. \nAgenda \n6:00pm Registration \n6:15pm Presentation \n6:30pm Fireside chat with Marc and Philip moderated by Tracey Wilkinson \n7:15pm Networking \n8:00pm Event close \nAbout ApiJect \nIn the mid-1980s\, Mr Marc Koska invented the revolutionary K-1 auto-disable syringe\, which prevented the spread of bloodborne diseases and infection by making the syringe impossible to reuse. It is believed his invention has helped to save more than 12 million lives. Watch his 2009 TED Talk here. \nIn 2005\, he founded the nonprofit SafePoint Trust to educate children in developing nations about the dangers of employing used needles. Among many other honors bestowed upon Marc\, he was made an Officer of the Order of the British Empire for his “contribution to global healthcare.” \nIn 2015\, Marc founded ApiJect Ltd and invented a breakthrough Blow-Fill-Seal (BFS) injection device. The Prefilled ApiJect Injector is designed for simplicity: just prior to injection\, a fill-finished Blow-Fill-Seal container and intramuscular needle hub are push-twisted together by a healthcare professional. \nThis new drug delivery platform has the potential to enable more liquid medicines and vaccines to safely reach more patients across the world. \nToday\, ApiJect Systems is a medical technology company working to improve how sterile liquid medicines and vaccines are fill-finished across the world. \n  \nIf you have any questions\, contact Rebekah Crags at rebekah.craggs@mtpconnect.org.au

SUMMARY:World Nuclear Energy Day 2023 – December 2nd – Webinar
DESCRIPTION:Showcasing Nuclear Energy in Australia and Around the Globe \n\n\n\n\n\nOnce more\, Innovate Australia proudly assumes the role of the official Ambassador for World Nuclear Energy Day in the year 2023. For the third consecutive occasion\, we extend a cordial invitation to commemorate the astounding strides in technology and ingenuity within the global nuclear energy sector. \nThe significance of December 2nd as our chosen date remains twofold. It is a tribute to the momentous day when the first-ever self-sustaining chain reaction was achieved. Additionally\, it marks the inauguration of the inaugural commercial-scale electric power reactor. On December 2\, 1942\, Fermi’s pioneering Chicago Pile-1 reactor achieved the historic milestone of a self-sustaining chain reaction. Furthermore\, precisely 15 years later\, on December 2\, 1957\, the first commercial-sized reactor in Shippingport\, Pennsylvania\, also reached criticality today. Delve deeper into this intriguing history by exploring Chicago Pile-1: A Brick Histor \nAs the pursuit of zero emissions gains momentum\, nuclear energy is steadily gaining a growing number of supporters and advocates in Australia.\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nOur MC/Moderator:\nPeter Kasprzak\nChairman\, Innovate Australia \nOur Presenters:\nJim Scherrer\nCoordinator\, World Nuclear Energy Day \nDr Joshua Goldstein\nProfessor Emeritus at American University\nCo-creator with Oliver Stone of Nuclear Now film <-(see more below) \nDr John Harries\nSecretary and Past-President\, Australian Nuclear Association \nStephen Wilson\nAdjunct Professor at the University of Queensland \nDr Warren McKenzie\nFounder and Managing Director\, HB11 Energy \n\nThe presentations will be followed by a Q&A session and a general discussion moderated by Peter Kasprzak
