SUMMARY:Growth Game Perth
DESCRIPTION:Growth Game is a Tractor Ventures production visiting multiple cities as part of a 2023 AU/NZ tour. \nThere’s not just one way to fund a technology company for growth. \nFounders have more options for funding than ever – that much is clear. \n‘But\, which direction? What’s the play here?\nHow do I build this business up\, and to the right\, right now?’\n\nAre you looking to fundraise now?\nAre you looking to fundraise soon?\nAre you looking to retain as much equity as possible and go slow?\nAre you wanting to right now\, head to the moon?\n\nThe Growth Game tour features founders\, investors and operators appearing in an unfiltered\, straight to the point commentary on the tech investment trends right now\, inviting the audience to ask those burning questions on how they too can accelerate at the pace that suits them. \nWe’ve curated many of the best speakers based right here in AU&NZ. You’ll get a clearer idea of your options for short and long term growth\, what current funding is out there (and from whom)\, and you’ll piece together a few of those building blocks in your head\, ready for the next funding decisions for growth.

SUMMARY:AICC(WA) & The Agency – Property Lunch
DESCRIPTION:THE AICC(WA) & THE AGENCY – Property Lunch\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n“Have we been here before\,\nor will it be different this time?”\nThe Perth property market has at times been counterintuitive to national movement\, based on migration driven demand and supply\, historic trends\, and demographic profiles. \nCommentary suggests that in the year ahead we will see the full impact of rising interest rates\, due to many fixed rate mortgages now reaching term. The question remains\, will monetary policy to lift interest rates risk driving Australia into recession? What does this mean for the local property market and most importantly\, what are the wise decisions we can make as we venture into a high rates cycle that has not been experienced for some time? \nOur expert panel will address this along with your own questions over lunch.

SUMMARY:HSA Webinar Series #2: How to unlock zero waste liquid hydrogen storage through the cool properties of cryogenic Hydrogen
DESCRIPTION:How to unlock zero waste liquid hydrogen storage through the cool properties of cryogenic Hydrogen – International Insights Special\n  \nThis is a special addition to the Hydrogen Links series\, offering unique international insights from HSA member correspondent in America\, Liam Turner. Liquid hydrogen\, the freezing fuel at -253 Celsius gave the space age its wings\, Liam now sees its potential to propel humanity into a sustainable energy future. Liam is a PhD Candidate at Monash University\, investigating liquid hydrogen’s opportunity to be both a fuel and a refrigerant.\nTime\n11:30am – 12:30pm: In-person networking \n12:30 – 1:00pm: Presentation (online and in-person) \nCost\nOnline Webinar: FREE \nIn-person: (includes a light lunch and face-to-face networking in Perth.): $15 for members / $25 for non members \n Get your tickets here\n  \nAbout the presenter\nLiam Turner\, Fulbright scholar at Washington State University\, PhD Candidate at Monash University \n \nAs a Fulbright scholar\, Liam has spent the last year experimentally researching liquid hydrogen storage at the Hydrogen Properties for Energy Research (HYPER) Lab at Washington State University in the United States. Liquefying hydrogen at -253oC is just a typical day at HYPER. \nLiam built and operated the largest indoor liquid hydrogen experiment at HYPER while learning a wealth on the design\, operation and safety requirements for liquid Hydrogen systems. \nHis practical liquid Hydrogen experience compliments broader U.S. insights on emerging disruptors technologies which offer the opportunity to transform the way we produce\, store and utilise liquid hydrogen energy across Australia. \nReturning to Australia\, Liam’s mission is help de-risk the opportunity of liquid hydrogen energy storage while helping develop Australian liquid hydrogen expertise training with insights from U.S. experts. \nHSA Webinar Series\nHydrogen Links\, an Industry Focused Academic Research webinar series presented monthly by HSA with Academic and Industry Collaborators \nThe Hydrogen Society of Australia (HSA) has grown considerably over the past year\, with successful initiatives which have engaged junior researchers\, such as our poster competition on the Australian Hydrogen Day (2022 10 08).  This year\, we wish to further bridge the gap between industry and academia\, launching the Academics webinar series\, on a monthly basis from May onwards. \n \nThe objective of this initiative is both to raise the level of industry awareness and expertise\, and deepen the relationships between industry and academia within the HSA. \nProminent Australian academics will be invited to provide a short overview of their research areas (20-30 mins)\, across the hydrogen ecosystem (ie. hydrogen production\, storage\, and utilization)\, followed by an industry focussed Q&A (30 mins). \n

SUMMARY:Online Panel: Harnessing AI For Good
DESCRIPTION:How can we harness AI for good? Join us for a conversation on creating AI that is inclusive\, personalised\, and fit-for-purpose. \n\nArtificial intelligence (AI) already powers many systems and tools in our daily lives. But existing biases and lack of inclusion are being embedded into these tools. \nWhat needs to happen as we design and develop these tools to ensure they are beneficial\, accessible\, and useful for as many people as possible? \nDona Sakar (Microsoft)\, Ed Santow (UTS Human Technology Institute)\, and Wayne Hawkins (ACCAN) join Manisha Amin (Centre for Inclusive Design) to discuss how to make AI inclusive by design\, and why accessible tech is an opportunity for innovation. \nThis event is part of the City of Sydney’s Visiting Entrepreneurs Program\, and is run in partnership with the UTS Centre for Social Justice & Inclusion. \nAbout Dona Sarkar – City of Sydney Visiting Entrepreneur (USA) \nBy day\, Dona leads the Accessibility tech program at Microsoft\, her latest focus is using OpenAI inclusively in their work to make sure the thousands of products they ship are usable by people with disabilities\, neurodiversity and mental health concerns. By night\, Dona runs her own fashion business\, Prima Dona Studios. She also coaches professionals on how to build non-boring corporate careers\, writes both fiction and non-fiction and – as of this year — is also a restaurateur. \nAbout the Visiting Entrepreneur Program \nThis online event is brought to you by the Centre for Inclusive Design in partnership with the University of Technology Sydney’s Centre for Social Justice and Inclusion. \nThis event is part of the Visiting Entrepreneur Program\, an annual City of Sydney initiative that connects international entrepreneurs with our local startup ecosystem. The 21 – 28 June 2023 program will explore the current wave of ideas\, trends\, and technologies disrupting society and economies. Discover what will outlive the hype\, how to discern the opportunities from the noise\, and the considerations for equitable impact. See the full program at city.sydney/vep #VEPSyd \nThe Visiting Entrepreneur Program is produced by the City of Sydney with partner organisations from the local startup ecosystem. The 2023 edition is kindly supported by Tech Central and the Greater Cities Commission.

SUMMARY:Human Centric AI Seminar: An Argument for Limiting Collection of Data
DESCRIPTION:Abstract:\n“Notice and choice\,” the dominant model for governing digital data collection and use\, assumes that if proper transparency is provided people will only use platforms that have data practices they agree with. But\, in reality\, widespread data collection and use of machine learning enables inferences to be generated that are hard for people to anticipate. This talk describes my recent work focused on people’s beliefs and expectations about what data are collected about them and how those data are used\, and makes an argument about how specific limits on data collection and inferences could help people make privacy choices that are more aligned with their preferences. \nBio:\nDr. Emilee Rader is an Associate Professor in the Department of Media and Information at Michigan State University. She studies how people reason and make choices about data collection and inferences enabled by digital technologies\, to better understand why people struggle to manage their privacy\, and to discover new ways to help people gain more appropriate control over information about them. Dr. Rader earned her PhD from the University of Michigan School of Information and spent two years at Northwestern University in the Department of Communication Studies\, where she was a recipient of the highly competitive Computing Innovation post-doctoral fellowship award from the Computing Research Association. She also has a professional Master’s degree from the Human Computer Interaction Institute at Carnegie Mellon University\, and worked with an interdisciplinary team of researchers at Motorola Labs designing and evaluating applications for mobile technologies. Her work has been funded by several grants from the National Science Foundation\, and she primarily publishes in usable privacy and security and human-computer interaction venues. \n\n\n\n\nRegister now\nPrice\nFree \nEvent date and time\nWednesday 28 Jun 2023\n10.00am to 11.00am AEST \nLocation\nOnline virtual event\nLogin details will be emailed to registrants

Come along to Lean Startup Perth and we’ll help you find a successful business. \nThis “Getting Started” meeting will introduce you the “big ideas” in Lean Startup and Customer Development. Did you know that Lean Startups don’t do sales\, don’t do marketing and don’t do product development? Well\, what do they do then? Come along and you will find out that and more\, \nCreated by Eric Ries and Steve Blank\, the Lean Startup with Customer Development approach is a radically new way of doing startups. It changes everything about startups (more than most founders\, service providers and investors realise). It changes the very meaning of what it is to be a startup. \nWe suggest new members come along to one of these “Getting Started” meetings to learn about Lean Startup with Customer Development before coming the to “Getting On” meetings. This “Getting Started” meetings are repeated but will only run if there are enough new members attending. \nWe welcome anyone keen to learn about Lean Startup with Customer Development. \nAll the best for success! \nCheers\,\nAshley. \nOrganiser\, Lean Startup Perth.
