SUMMARY:WA Social Enterprises: Certify as a business for good!
DESCRIPTION:The world has changed. So has business. Now is the time to get recognised as a certified social enterprise. \nAlmost 500 Australian social enterprises have chosen certification – WA is a very small portion of those certified. Are we ready to join the community of game changers? \nWASEC invites you to join us and Social Traders to learn about what certification provides. Social Traders is Australia’s only independent verification of social enterprise status. Social Traders work with social enterprises across all impact models\, legal types and all stages of social enterprise development including start-ups. \nIn this online workshop delivered by the WA Social Enterprise Council and Social Traders\, you’ll get: \n\nInsight into the social enterprise model and why its catching on globally.\nHow certification supports your business to grow.\nAn introduction to our community of gamechangers and membership offer.\nHow certification supports access to social procurement opportunities.\nEverything needed to get started and receive your certification activation kit.\n\n——— \nA message from Social Traders CEO\, Tara Anderson: \nAt a time when businesses are grappling with the challenge of creating purpose beyond profit\, social enterprises have been doing it for decades. And it’s time the whole economy learnt from them and shifted in that direction. \nCertification is your key to being recognised as a social enterprise – by the sector\, by funders\, by big business and by government. \nThe number of certified social enterprises is growing by an average of 29% every year. We want all social enterprises to be certified so they can be recognised\, win new contracts\, access capacity building support and secure grant funding or social investment. 79% of certified social enterprises have increased their revenue between certification periods. \nMy ask – stand up and be proud of who we are\, by getting certified \nLet’s be unwavering in making our identity as social enterprises known. Let’s clearly state who we are\, so we can tell the country why we matter. Because if we harness our collective energy\, everything is possible. \nJoin us at the forefront of the shift to business for good. \nFor any questions on the event or to connect with WASEC please email hello@wasec.org. \nFor questions regarding certification contact certification@socialtraders.com.au

SUMMARY:Lean Startup First-Timers: Getting Started with Customer Development!
DESCRIPTION:This introductory “Getting Started” meeting is for founders (and potential founders) who are first-timers to Lean Startup Perth (or those who wish to get a refresher on Lean Startup). It’s best for you to attend one of these meeting before attending a “Getting On” meeting (although it’s not required). \nHello Perth Founders and Friends\, \nHave you got a great startup idea? Or have you already started a new business and it’s not going so well? Don’t waste any more time or money on building an app or product\, getting PR\, or even marketing. Come along to Lean Startup Perth and we’ll help you find a successful business. \nThis “Getting Started” meeting will introduce you the “big ideas” in Lean Startup and Customer Development. Did you know that Lean Startups don’t do sales\, don’t do marketing and don’t do product development? Well\, what do they do then? Come along and you will find out that and more\, \nCreated by Eric Ries and Steve Blank\, the Lean Startup with Customer Development approach is a radically new way of doing startups. It changes everything about startups (more than most founders\, service providers and investors realise). It changes the very meaning of what it is to be a startup. \nWe suggest new members come along to one of these “Getting Started” meetings to learn about Lean Startup with Customer Development before coming the to “Getting On” meetings. This “Getting Started” meetings are repeated but will only run if there are enough new members attending. \nWe welcome anyone keen to learn about Lean Startup with Customer Development. \nAll the best for success! \nCheers\,\nAshley. \nOrganiser\, Lean Startup Perth.

SUMMARY:Hydrogen as a Marine Fuel: Opportunities and Challenges
DESCRIPTION:In June 2023\, the International Maritime Organization (IMO) set revised targets in the 80th session of the Marine Environmental Protection Committee (MEPC) to decarbonize the global fleet. The new targets include a 20% reduction in greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions by 2030\, a 70% reduction by 2040 (compared to 2008 levels)\, and the ultimate goal of achieving net-zero emissions by 2050. \nThe implementation of alternative fuels to conventional fossil-based fuels is key to the decarbonisation of the global maritime and shipping industry. Green Hydrogen is currently one of the prime candidates among alternative shipping fuels\, as it offers ship owners and operators a low-carbon and low-emission fuel option for potential use in internal combustion engines and fuel cells. \nHowever\, there are several complex challenges concerning the adoption of green hydrogen in the shipping industry. In this webinar\, three speakers were invited to present on various topics related to the role of green hydrogen in decarbonising the maritime industry and shed light on the main challenges the maritime industry is currently facing. \nThe invited presentations and speakers are: \n‌Presentation 1: Alternative Fuels and their Implications on Vessel Design \n\nPresented by: Dr. Thomas Beard (BMT)\n\nPresentation 2: Ports’ Opportunities and Challenges in Global Hydrogen Supply Chains \n\nPresented by: Associate Professor Peggy Chen (AMC\, UTAS)\n\n‌Presentation 3: The feasibility of using hydrogen as a marine fuel in Australia \n\nPresented by: Dr. Hongjun Fan (AMC\, UTAS)\n\nFollowed by Q&A
