Founders Panel Event: Challenging the Status Quo

25 May 2022 @ 12:00 pm - 2:00 pm AWST

Join us for a frank and open discussion with our panel of founders who are challenging the status quo and paving the way forward.

They will share their stories that led them to starting their business, the challenges they‘ve faced along the way and what success means to them in a conversation led by our panel facilitator, Behind the Brands Founder, Megan Del Borrello.

Behind the Brands events are open to everyone including leaders and supporters with a shared perspective.

PANELLISTS

Benjamyn Gardner: Founder of AntiBeauty

Benjamyn Gardner is the founder of AntiBeauty, one of Australia’s fastest growing skincare brands, with the mission of wanting consumers to question what their perception of beauty is and to be re-educated on ethical beauty.

Benjamyn has also experienced a very unique life and is an advocate for Mental Health Awareness, domestic violence, homelessness and trauma having experienced all of those things first hand and now trying to help fix those problems where they can.

Katie Liew: Founder & CEO of The Underground Collaborative

Katie graduated with a Bachelor of Commerce at Curtin University, majoring in Accounting & Business Law before spending the better part of 10 years in the mining and resources industry as a Management Accountant. During this time, she actively volunteered with organisations including the State Emergency Service, Camp Quality and Youth Affairs Council WA.

In 2017, she rediscovered my passion for volunteering and social impact; from there, began her social entrepreneurship journey with the dreams of driving and instilling positive change in the lives of others – in October she left her corporate career to start The Underground Collaborative which exists to provide employment to empower women and young people experiencing or at-risk of homelessness. She is an advocate for social enterprise in creating systems change and sits on the board of the WA Social Enterprise Council.

Jenny Lam: Celebrity Cook & Entrepreneur

Considered one of Australia’s favourite celebrity cooks, Jenny Lam is a passionate cook and entrepreneur, owner of the popular Bunn Mee & newly launched Phat Lon in Leederville, and award-winning cookbook author of Eat Like A Viet. Jen is also a sought after speaker and media contributor, regularly appearing across Australian television screens, radio stations and newspapers.

Learning to cook at eight years of age, Jen’s culinary knowledge and skills grew from her love of her own culture, and her love of traditional Vietnamese food, and by the age of 13 she was preparing all meals for her family. Jen’s vision is to spread joy and inspiration and empowerment through her two great loves – food and business – whilst educating them on how to experience their own culinary adventures at home.
