DEADLINE: Apply to join the StartupWA Board as a Director

As a non-Executive Director, you will partner with the board to meet StartupWA’s objectives and purpose. You will ensure, together with the board, that StartupWA (SWA) operates ethically and socially responsible. This includes maintaining the highest governance standards, advocating for the Western Australian startup ecosystem and acting with honesty and integrity.

In running the SWA board, we are committed to ensuring that the collective minds and experience of the board members contribute to strengthening the agenda for SWA. This means to have an effective board, a mix of skills and attributes are required. Ones that are balanced across individual board members and collectively service what the organisation needs to carry out its strategy.

Key deliverables of the role will include:

• Promote and advocate for and on behalf of SWA interests, including the broader constituents of a diverse membership base.
• Demonstrate commitment to the organisation through regular and continual attendance at Board and project meetings.
• In partnership with the Board, ensure the organisation’s financial control procedures are adequate and that risk management strategies are in place.
• Commit to implementing, maintaining and refining a system of good governance.
• Liaise with relevant stakeholders.

This is a volunteer position. To execute the Board Director’s role we expect that you will need to commit around eight hours per month to attend Board meetings, conduct project work and prepare for meetings by reading board papers.

About you

We are seeking candidates who bring a genuine interest in SWA’s purpose and goals, as well as bring:
• Integrity and demonstrated commitment to the principles of diversity and inclusion.
• Knowledge and understanding of the tech startup environment.
• Industry-specific knowledge and experience related to SWA’s purpose gained from experience in community, leadership, program, stakeholder relations, policy or advocacy roles.
• Capacity for contribution to a board seeking to extend its impact in WA.
• The ability to engage and effectively communicate with all stakeholders.
• Good business instinct and acumen.
• Understanding of good governance.
• Ability to read and interpret financial statements
