SUMMARY:Australian Maritime Regulatory Environment
DESCRIPTION:Australia’s maritime sector operates within a complex regulatory environment that influences the design\, construction and certification of commercial and defence vessels. Understanding how regulatory authorities\, flag states and classification societies interact is essential for engineers entering or working within the shipbuilding industry. \nThis presentation provides an introduction to Australia’s maritime regulatory framework and the key stakeholders that contribute to vessel compliance and safety. Participants will explore the role of International Association of Classification Societies (IACS) members\, gain an understanding of the regulatory pathways available to new shipbuilding programs\, and examine how systems engineering principles support requirements management\, verification and compliance activities. \nThrough practical examples\, attendees will see how regulatory requirements are translated into engineering processes across the shipbuilding lifecycle and how systems engineering contributes to successful project delivery.

SUMMARY:ACS Webinar - Sustainable Data Centres in the Age of AI
DESCRIPTION:This interactive event will examine how Australia\, and Western Australia in particular\, can capture the economic benefits of AI infrastructure while ensuring that data-centre growth is environmentally\, economically and socially sustainable.\nArtificial intelligence is reshaping the economics and infrastructure requirements of the digital economy\, driving rapid growth in demand for high-performance computing and data-centre capacity. This growth creates a significant sustainability challenge: data centres are energy-intensive\, increasingly concentrated in areas with constrained electricity networks\, and can place substantial demands on water\, land and other infrastructure. At the same time\, they represent a major opportunity for investment\, employment\, innovation and the acceleration of renewable-energy development. Australia attracted approximately $10 billion in data-centre investment during 2024\, while national electricity demand from data centres is expected to increase materially as AI adoption accelerates. \nThis interactive event will examine how Australia—and Western Australia in particular—can capture the economic benefits of AI infrastructure while ensuring that data-centre growth is environmentally\, economically and socially sustainable. Moreover\, the event will consider innovation opportunities in the sustainable development of green data centres with the potential to support Western Australia’s transition to renewable energy. \nLeading experts from industry\, government\, and academia will present the opportunities and issues.  Following the presentations\, participants will unpack hypothetical case study scenarios before reporting back to the group in a dynamic interactive session. \nMoreover\, the event will consider innovation opportunities in the sustainable development of green data centres with the potential to support Western Australia’s transition to renewable energy.

SUMMARY:Quantum Essentials: Understanding the Next Computing Revolution
DESCRIPTION:Quantum Essentials is an accessible\, interactive masterclass designed for professionals who want to understand quantum technology.\nQuantum computing is one of the most talked-about emerging technologies\, but for many professionals working in digital and technology\, it can feel distant or overly complex. As quantum computing and other quantum-based technologies move from research labs into real-world applications\, technology leaders need a clear\, practical understanding of what this shift means for their industries\, their organisations\, and their careers. \nQuantum Essentials is an accessible\, interactive masterclass designed for professionals who want to understand quantum technology without needing a physics background. This session cuts through the hype to provide a grounded introduction to what quantum computing actually is\, where it’s headed\, and why it matters for cybersecurity\, digital strategy\, and long-term transformation planning. The focus is on understanding\, not coding\, empowering participants to engage confidently in conversations about quantum technology and its strategic implications. \nThis masterclass is led by Dr Guy Barry\, Partnerships Development Manager for the Queensland Node of Quantum Australia\, the national centre for quantum growth backed by the Department of Industry\, Science and Resources. Guy brings over 30 years of innovation experience spanning neuroscience\, stem cell biology\, anti-aging research\, and emerging technologies.

SUMMARY:Climate informed energy demand modelling for regional communities
DESCRIPTION:Energy systems operating in regional and remote environments are increasingly affected by rising temperatures\, changing weather patterns and evolving customer energy consumption behaviours. These factors are introducing new challenges for engineers responsible for planning\, forecasting and maintaining reliable electricity networks.\nThis presentation will explore how climate-informed demand and energy forecasting methods can be used to improve planning under uncertain future conditions. Attendees will gain insight into scenario-based forecasting approaches\, the incorporation of climate variables into demand models\, and the role of uncertainty analysis in supporting engineering decision-making. \nDrawing on practical experience from regional Western Australian power systems\, the session will highlight challenges\, lessons learned and considerations for engineers seeking to strengthen system resilience and support long-term climate adaptation planning.

SUMMARY:AI Leadership Sprint
DESCRIPTION:Part of WA AI HUB Leadership Forum and Sprint 2026\, a West Tech Fest event. \n\n\n\n\nAI is now writing reports\, drafting decisions\, and making recommendations inside organisations every day. SUMMARY:AI Leadership Forum
DESCRIPTION:The AI Leadership Forum brings together enterprise directors\, government leaders\, and technology delegates from across the Asia-Pacific to work through questions that sit above any single tool: how responsibility is shared\, how to stay on the right side of regulation across borders\, and how organisations keep the trust of their customers and communities as they scale AI. \nExpect a genuine exchange of ideas\, not a lecture. You’ll hear how leaders across Western Australia\, the eastern states\, and neighbouring innovation hubs are approaching the same challenges. You will leave with a clearer view of what good AI governance looks like in practice and what it should mean for the people at the top. \n\n\nPart of the WA AI HUB Leadership Forum and Sprint 2026\, a West Tech Fest satellite event.
