This grant opportunity will focus specifically on making it easier for small and medium sized enterprises (SMEs) to find\, navigate\, and utilise modern awards. \nAs part of this challenge grantees are required to utilise the Fair Work Commission’s Modern Award Pay Database (MAPD) to ensure up-to-date information on modern awards minimum rates of pay\, allowances\, overtime and penalty rates data is integrated in the final solution. The Fair Work Commission has released an application programming interface (API) that grantees could consider using in their design solution. Grantees must use the MAPD\, but they may also use data from other sources. Challenge participants must have regard to the Fair Work Commission’s MAPD Disclaimer available on the Fair Work Commission website and the MAPD API terms of use and important information statement when using these data sources. \nThe challenge for supporting the implementation of the Workplace Relations Usability Feasibility grant opportunity is “Using technology to improve the user experience of SMEs engaging with modern awards”.

DESCRIPTION:The International Energy Agency (IEA) Ocean Energy Systems (OES) Technology Collaboration Programme published an International Evaluation and Guidance Framework for Ocean Energy Technology. The document intends to support international efforts by presenting a framework for technology evaluation and guidance of engineering activity\, ensuring that decision-makers have consistent information available to them. \nInternational acceptance of a common approach to technology development and evaluation brings the following benefits: \n\nClarity in the expectations from different stakeholders during each stage of development\, bringing clearer communication.\nConsistency in the use of terminology\, and the process to evaluate technology\, ensuring a level playing field.\nStakeholders working together to build confidence and transparency in the sector.\nEfficient decision-making processes promoting direction of funding to the technologies with highest chances of commercial success.\nTechnology development processes consistent across the world\, leading to more international collaboration more globally transferrable technology.\nConsistent and coordinated application of other sources of technical guidance available in the ocean energy sector.\n\nThe framework applies to wave and tidal stream technologies\, but future versions will be expanded to other forms of ocean energy. \nThe invited presentations and speakers will provide: \n\nInformation about the IEA-OES Technology Collaboration Programme;\nThe objectives\, content and benefits of the IEA-OES Evaluation and Guidance Framework\, and the experience of national and international funders in its adoption.\nAn application of the framework in the development of Carnegie Clean Energy’s CETO technology toward commercialisation in the EuropeWave programme.\n\nPresentation 1: About the Ocean Energy Systems (OES) Technology Collaboration Programme Presented by Professor Irene Penesis \nOcean Energy Systems (OES) is the short name for the Technology Collaboration Programme on Ocean Energy Systems\, an intergovernmental collaboration between countries\, founded in 2001\, which operates under a framework established by the International Energy Agency (IEA) in Paris. \nEstablished in 1974\, the International Energy Agency (IEA) carries out a comprehensive programme of energy co-operation for its 29 member countries and beyond by examining the full spectrum of energy issues and advocating policies that will enhance energy security\, economic development\, environmental awareness and engagement worldwide. \nThe Blue Economy CRC is the member representing Australia. Professor Irene Penesis is the Australian Primary Delegate\, and Professor Christophe Gaudin (from University of Western Australia) is the Alternate Delegate. \nPresentation 2: Objectives\, content and benefits of the IEA-OES Evaluation and Guidance Framework presented by Jonathan Hodges \nIn this talk\, Jonathan Hodges will introduce the objectives\, content and benefits of the IEA-OES Evaluation and Guidance Framework\, including the updates soon to be released in a 2nd Edition. He will discuss the background of its production and share the experiences of national and international funders and their adoption of its recommendations in ocean energy funding programmes. \nPresentation 3: Development of the CETO technology toward commercialisation in the framework of the EuropeWave programme presented by Dr Alexandre Pichard \nCarnegie is the owner and developer of the CETO technology\, which captures energy from ocean waves and converts it into electricity. We use the latest advances in artificial intelligence and electric machines to optimally control the device and generate electricity in the most efficient way possible. \nWe have a long history in ocean energy with a track record of world leading developments. We are using a staged approach to our technology development to minimise risk and cost along the pathway. The OES framework provides valuable guidance around the logical development steps and the associated evaluation criteria. It provides a framework for technology evaluation and guidance of engineering activity \nCarnegie has been selected to progress the development of the CETO technology toward commercialisation in the framework of the EuropeWave programme. EuropeWave is an innovative R&D programme combining almost €20 million of national\, regional and EU funding to drive a competitive Pre-Commercial Procurement (PCP) programme for wave energy technology. The presentation will highly how Carnegie has been applying the OES framework withing the context of the EuropeWave programme. \nThe webinar will be facilitated by Professor Irene Penesis and presentations will be followed by Q&A.

DESCRIPTION:Online Webinar – The Gifts of Circularity\nAustralia\, New Zealand and our Asia/Pacific neighbours can learn a great deal from members of the European Union (EU) where the transition towards a circular economy is already underway. This was an obvious takeaway from a recent European Study Tour organised by the Australian Circular Economy Hub and Planet Ark\, which derived significant learnings from the Netherlands\, Sweden\, France and the UK as well as the World Circular Economy Forum in Helsinki\, Finland. \nIn the second webinar of this series\, we are joined by three circular economy practitioners who joined the ACE Hub Study Tour Delegation. Moderated by Planet Ark’s Nicole Garofano\, we will hear from Bronwyn Voyce\, Founder of Civic Futures Lab\, Emily Dunstan\, Chief Growth Officer at Sustainability Victoria and Hayley Jarick\, CEO of the Supply Chain Sustainability School. \nIn this webinar\, our speakers will share their reflections on the strategic policy directions underway in the EU and discuss how education supports circular economy adoption across all businesses\, including SMEs. They will unpack how value-chain collaboration and industrial symbiosis are enabling circular adoption and acceleration. \n\n  \nNicole Garofano is the Head of Circular Economy Development for Planet Ark. Nicole is leading the ongoing strategic development of the Australian Circular Economy Hub. For almost 20 years\, Nicole has worked in environmental education and action with a focus on waste management and a circular economy. \nBronwyn Voyce is the founder of Civic Futures Lab\, an impact lab helping leaders make sense of complexity\, navigate uncertainty\, and deepen their impact in tackling climate change. She works with governments and ASX-listed corporations to accelerate their transition to net zero through ESG strategy development\, policy design and circular program delivery. Bronwyn led the development and delivery of the global first program to divert banned surplus single-use plastics from landfill\, through the “Great Plastic Rescue” diverting over 60\,000 tonnes of obsolete stock from landfill. \nEmily Dunstan is the Chief Growth Officer at Sustainability Victoria. From starting out in zoology and animal behaviour\, Emily has spent over sixteen years working in education\, science communication\, behaviour change and insights\, strategic planning and social impact. Her work has taken her from zoos to schools to humanitarian organisations and finally state government. She loves working out why people do the things they do\, and how we can help our communities take on more pro-environmental action – in ways that make sense to them. The Strategy\, Research and Growth group’s role is to ensure Sustainability Victoria’s programs are future ready\, responsive to emergent trends\, opportunities\, and risks and getting Victoria to an economy that is circular and clean\, as fast as possible. \nHayley Jarick is the Company Secretary and CEO of the Supply Chain Sustainability School Limited\, an Independent Director of ResponsibleSteel\, Chair of Planet Ark’s Australian Circular Economy Hub Procurement Working Group\, and within WWF’s Materials & Embodied Carbon Leaders Alliance (MECLA)\, a Project Control Group (PCG) member and Chair of two working groups; steel and knowledge. Areas of consideration include health and safety\, mine maturity\, infrastructure\, cost and resource allocation\, maintenance and skills requirements\, regulatory requirement considerations and more. \nAbout the project \nSince the time of this guideline’s initial publication (version one was published in 2019)\, there have been advancements in the different technological solutions that are available\, as well as years of experience and applicable knowledge gained across mine sites globally. This updated version of this guideline will be expanded to include learnings from deployments of the past few years and to ensure considerations are addressed to support the implementation of various autonomous solutions in both the surface or underground environment. \nHighlights include \n· Making sure there is consideration given to underground mining \n· More consideration given to different types of autonomous equipment \n· Guidance related to full lifecycle cost; cybersecurity; performance and metrics \n· Full new sections on operational readiness and deployment \nAt the workshop \nParticipants will work together to help finish off content development for the nearly completed guideline. Specifically\, we need help generating content for sections of the guideline related to operational readiness and deployment.

SUMMARY:CSIRO: Sustainability Science Series
DESCRIPTION:How can we drive multiple sustainability outcomes simultaneously? Professor Andy Stirling and discussants\nRequired shifts to a more sustainable society mean working on many fronts at once. This can be overwhelming. There are many potential drivers of change\, just as there are many forms of incumbency and inertia that need to be overcome. This complexity can lead individuals and organisations\, understandably\, to ‘stick to their knitting’ and focus on piecemeal contributions. In turn\, a narrow focus can result in disjointed\, uncoordinated and fractured activities that lead to ‘unintended’ outcomes. Potential examples are numerous: the scaling of a critical minerals industry in Australia could have diverse social\, cultural and environmental consequences\, depending on how it is developed and implemented; the use of the land sector to off-set other sectors creates diverse risks for farming communities and food security; the shift to an electrified urban transport system could have very differing consequences for health and equity depending on which options are prioritised\, by whom. \nNavigating such uncertainties can be usefully aided by linking approaches that work in different ways to steer outcomes. This is the argument of our guest speaker\, Professor Andy Stirling. With his colleagues\, Andy has explored how different approaches to driving sustainability can be considered together\, and potentially\, operate synergistically. \nIn this talk Andy will provide an overview of these approaches\, how they can be understood and applied synergistically\, and his current thinking and analysis about options for linking structural\, systemic and enabling approaches in different settings. Structural approaches relate to deep changes in the ways consumption and production are governed\, organised and enacted. Systemic approaches focus on interactions and interdependencies across institutions (e.g. policies)\, technologies\, and wider social processes to steer change in complex systems. Enabling approaches focus on people\, their values and goals\, and collective capacities to navigate and act to create preferred futures. \nAndy’s talk will be followed by an engaging\, moderated discussion with leaders in CSIRO and beyond\, to explore the implications and potential to link integrate these approaches in applied work.
