SUMMARY:ANFF-C webinar series: Manufacturing for Startups
DESCRIPTION:Experts from various sectors will discuss all considerations for early-stage companies that want to manufacture products.\nANFF-C is pleased to announce that Department of Education First Assistant Secretary for Research Dom English and Assistant Secretary Carolyn Shrives will present the second webinar of ANFF-C’s ‘Manufacturing for Startups’ seminar. \nMr English and Ms Shrives will provide their insights into The Australian Economic Accelerator\, one of the most novel schemes around research translation that has been initiated in the higher education sector. The Australian Government is investing $1.6 billion to accelerate reform in the higher education sector for the translation and commercialisation of university research through a new stage-gated funding program. Industry also has a major role to play in this new initiative with Gate 2 funding requiring industry support. \n\n\n\n\nAssistant Secretary Shrives is responsible for the development of the University Research Commercialisation Scheme and now the Australian Economic Accelerator (AEA) program. In her current role\, Carolyn is leading the work to implement the AEA which was a key component of the Action Plan. This follows on from her role working with the Expert Panel appointed by Government to provide advice on ways to help unlock the research potential within Australia’s university sector. The Action Plan\, which was developed from this work\, seeks to enhance the translation and commercialisation of research at Australian universities by funding translational research\, supporting partnerships between universities and businesses and building the workforce required to achieve these outcomes. \nMr Dom English has worked in the Australian Government for more than twenty years across a range of portfolios. This includes the Finance\, Immigration and Prime Ministers portfolio. Mr English joined the Department of Education in January 2014 as First Assistant Secretary in the Higher Education\, Research and International Group. SUMMARY:Innovation Incentives and your IP – getting it right
DESCRIPTION:Presenter: Matt McCarthy | Senior Manager | Global Investment and Innovation Incentives (Gi3) | Deloitte Tax Services Pty Ltd \nIn many cases\, R&D activities will produce intellectual property. Understanding the implications of IP development and protection decisions on the availability of the Australian R&D Tax Incentive could result in access to critical cash flow. \nThe R&D Tax Incentive is the Federal Government’s most consistent financial encouragement for innovative development in Australia. Naturally\, such innovation often results in the development of valuable IP\, providing your competitive advantage in the market. So how do we ensure we are maximising R&D Tax Incentives as we develop\, protect and commercialise our intellectual property? Join Matt McCarthy\, Senior Manager in the Deloitte Global Investment and Innovation Incentives team and LESANZ NSW Committee member\, to explore questions such as: \nI have a development company and an IP holding company – which one should claim? I outsource my development to a contractor – can I still claim? I am a contractor assisting with development – can I claim? I am developing IP\, though it sits with a foreign parent company – can I still claim? I have spent significant money on patenting my IP – can this be covered by the R&D Tax Incentive?

SUMMARY:Bringing Diversity of Thinking to Transformation Leadership Teams
DESCRIPTION:On 30th May\, Digital Transformation Perth will host an extra special event for our local business and technology community. We’ll be taking over Riff’s Town Hall with a packed evening of conversations from not one\, but two panels. \nThese panels will feature not only transformational leaders from Perth\, but also a special guest who will be joining us virtually from Norway: Whynde Kuehn\, Founder and Managing Director of S2E Transformation. \nIn this night of two halves (bridged by our usual pause for drinks\, food\, and networking)\, our first panel will tackle the question of why we want to drive diversity in transformational leadership. \nWith evolving methodologies\, no cookie-cutter approach for transformational leadership\, and no single greatest role model to emulate\, this is an area deserving of our attention. We need leaders who bring different perspectives and practical approaches. We can achieve this by supporting diversity of thinking\, backgrounds\, experience\, and capabilities. But how do we inspire the growth and inclusion of leaders who will bring this diversity? \nOur second panel will introduce us to one example of how we can support diversity in our leadership. We are excited to share that this session will mark Australia’s public launch of global initiative Women in Architecture (WIA). \nWIA was created to accelerate the pathway for women in architecture to amplify the impact of the discipline worldwide. WIA is a community based on a spirit of personal growth\, open exchange\, mutual trust\, and helping each other. \nThis promises to be a dynamic and inspiring event\, so we hope to see many familiar and new faces alike on 30th May!
