AI in Australia’s interests: AI and the future of engineering
Artificial intelligence is rapidly reshaping engineering practice, infrastructure, workforce capability, education and national productivity.
As Australia accelerates its adoption of AI technologies, engineers have an increasingly important role to play in designing, deploying, governing and assuring the systems that will underpin the nation’s future economy and society.
To help engineers navigate this changing landscape, Engineers Australia is launching AI in Australia’s Interests: AI and the Future of Engineering, a national thought leadership and member engagement series exploring the implications of AI for the profession and Australia’s future.
This launch event will bring together engineering leaders, practitioners, researchers and thought leaders to discuss Australia’s AI agenda, emerging opportunities and challenges, and the role engineers will play in shaping an AI-enabled future.
Rather than focusing solely on AI tools and applications, this session will explore the broader questions facing the profession, including workforce capability, professional responsibility, infrastructure, education, sovereign capability and national competitiveness. Participants will hear diverse perspectives, contribute their own views, and help shape an ongoing conversation about how engineers can respond to and lead through this period of technological change. This event also introduces the broader AI in Australia’s Interests series, which will continue throughout 2026 and 2027.
